No they are not men and not all sects of the Muslim faith require a woman to be veiled. They practice it based on modesty and respect. Early Christians did the same. If you recall there is a scripture about a woman praying with her head covered. It's not that she had to hide from God. Too many people got caught up in elaborate hair dressings and wearing finery, losing their focus on God. It was a move to restore modesty and focus on the faith.

The PRAYNOGRAPHER all knowing says" they must cover up so that others cannot see the bruises that their men inflict on them. Muslim men can not control their women without force. It was like that here at one time when Christianity ruled. Women where the subordinates to men. Until common since took over.

I think this is a degrading tradition. I'm not a sexist, and I can't imagine another person being lesser than me in such a way. I sure as hell can't imagine this being imposed on my mother or sister. If you're religion demands this, then maybe it's time to start questioning the religion. Please keep in mind that Christianity makes the same demands.

It's their custom. It is considered a sign of respect and subordination to hide their faces. It has been considered "improper" to show the face. It is drifting more into the past, as in Morocco and elsewhere many muslim women are exposing their faces.

It is a requirement of Islamic Sharia law. They can be beaten, jailed or sometimes even killed if they take off their burkas or veils. It's barbaric.

It is taking the Qur'anic dictum of modest dress for women to a ridiculous extreme.
