Some times everything is ok, but other times I feel like my partner does not give me enough room to breath. What are good ways to overcome this or deal with it in an adult manner (currently I lash out which causes big arguments)?

We do not live together and often we are not around each other because of my work schedule. When we are together for more than 5 hours I get really edgy.

This is not how romance should feel. 5 hours and you're edgy is a sign that you're not meant to be together cause if you can't be together after 5 hours, how are you going to go to the next level with him? unless of course you don't want to go to the next level. Then, why are you waisting your life with someone you could only enjoy for less than 5 hours? Find someone that could make you wanting more, that you can't get enough of. I wish I could see my man everyday, all day, even after 3 years together, and I'm glad I still feel this way. You should too.

To me this doesn't sound like a relationship that is ever really going to work. If you haven't seen each other in days then get around each other and things explode, then it's time to realize what you think is real, really isn't. Love and relationships are not this way. Sounds to me like you want to easy out but don't want to either face it yourself or hurt your partner. Time to reevaluate the relationship and yourself
