oxycodone is a lot stronger than hydrocodone. Both are totally wonderful and very highly addictive. Even from the first time so be very careful.

As you have been reading in other answer hydrocodone is the active ingredient in lortabs, lorcet, vicoden, vicoprophen, etc. It comes in 5mg. 7.5mg. 10 mg. depending on the product you are prescribed and is always combined with another product like tylenol or ibuprophen. It is a class III narcotic which means it can be called in to a pharmacy or refilled.

Oxycodone is the active ingredient in percocets and percodans (which contain 5 mg oxycodone plus tylenol or asprin) and other fast release varieties. It can be obtained without combined ingredients and comes in at least 5mg, 15mg, 30mg, pure form. It also comes in the slow release form known as Oxycontin 10mg, 20mg, 40mg, 80mg, and I think 160mg. Oxycodone in all forms is a Class II narcotic which requires an original prescription each time(in the US).

Oxycodone is 5 times stronger or more than Hydrocodone.
Be careful, Oxycodone is one of the most addicting pain killer out there, a friend of mine toke an 80mg of pure Oxycodone (Oxycontin) and she died. Millions of people are addicted to it and some say is as strong as heroin , even better.

Hydrocodone and oxycodone are very different in nature. Hydrocodone has a different chemical structure then oxycodone, therefore the process of reaction is different, but both have same results (to relieve pain).

Also, Oxycodone is a schedule 2 drug. Which means that it has a higher level of abuse than Hydrocodone. Hydrocodone is a schedule 3 drug and is less often abused by user.

The strength of each drug is the deciphering factor. Hydrocodone is not as strong as Oxycodone. Hydrocodone is primarily used for small to mild pain and Oxycodone is primarily used for Moderate to Severe pain.

Oxycodone. Of course, what if you're comparing Hydrocodone 7.5 to oxycodone 5? It's hard to say! Oxycodone is CII, and hydrocodone is CIII (CI is contraband). (You're not taking both, are you?!?! Is that safe?)

Hydrocodone is an opiate medication (narcotic analgesic) that acts upon specific receptors in the brain and spinal cord to decrease the feeling of pain and to reduce the emotional response to pain. The action of hydrocodone is similar to other medications in the morphine category (opioids). It also controls cough (antitussive).

Why It Is Used
Hydrocodone is used to manage moderate to severe pain, usually in people who have chronic pain, and to control coughing.

Oxycodone is available as pills, controlled-release tablets, or solution for oral use. It is sometimes combined with acetaminophen or aspirin.

How It Works
Oxycodone is a semisynthetic opioid that acts upon specific receptors in the brain and spinal cord to decrease the feeling of pain and to reduce the emotional response to pain.

Why It Is Used
Oxycodone is used to relieve severe pain caused by surgery, accident or injury, or chronic illness such as cancer.

How Well It Works
Oxycodone effectively manages mild to severe pain. It has a rapid onset and is frequently used for breakthrough PAIN.

The main difference is that oxycodone has asprin or acetaminophen in it. Hope this helps
