I would like to ask something of this community. I know this is not easy, but I constantly see questions titled "Why do Christians" or "Why do muslims" or "Isn't anybody fed up _____(religion here)" Before you jump to classify all Christians as ignorant Bible thumpers or all Muslims as extremists, please think about the stupidity of generalities. It makes no since to assume that since someone believes in God or Allah that they all have the exact same beliefs and opinions or that they all act the same way. Many "Christians" on this board have made a nuisance of themselves, but that does not mean that all Christians are conservatives, ignorant, hateful, or anything else.

I so wish that those of us that are of religious faith could realize the simple truth. Getting angry and making angry statements does not convince anyone of our faith, it becomes a major turn off.

In principle, I agree;
However, the attack that comes more and more is on FUNDAMENTAL Christianity.
No one can possibly be 100% correct or exclusive, they say - so they throw illogic,obfuscation and dissaray into the fray to either:
1> Make themselves "feel better" by "proving an inconsistency"
2>Somehow dissuade someone who is TRULY looking for an answer.
3> Postulate Preposterous claims and myths to sidetrack thier own guilt or assuage their shame
4>or they just hack and hack away, hoping that the "Fundie" will simply give up - a vicarious victory, shallow and meaningless.
Too bad. God's message of love is simple - Jesus paid the price for your sin- believe it, and live. refuse the gift of God, and refuse Him - you will be alone,forever.

You said the truth, the very truth.
This Yahoo Q/A should be used for understanding and not hate mongering. Also, it is very difficult (though not impossible) to find who actually are asking these hate inciting questions. I believe there are suspected cases where other than Christian and Muslims were posing as Christian and Muslims and asking such questions.

I agree 100%. Im a Christian and I do give an answer for my beliefs but Im never sending anyone to hell or making an *** of myself. I have made it my practice as a Christian, since I have not always been one, that I wont ever be the type of Christian that kept me away so long.

I agree. I am a "moderate" Christian. Not at all conservative. And I do think for myself, most of the time. When I am wrong, I admit it and don't have a problem with my beliefs being challenged. Neither do I think that getting angry helps anybody.

You are correct, of course, and obviously opinions vary widely. I must simply urge people to look at evidence, and apply logic to it. If you do so, no religion or view of god can be supported by either logic or evidence. Since every theory of god is irrefutable, it follows (proved) that no such theory can have any consequences in the real world: all such theories are useless.

Agreed.
BUT, Protestantism DOES allow for the concept MY RELIGION, CHANGE IT OR LOSE IT, which Islam doesn't allow.
This is why Epsicolpalians (and I'm not of that sect) are making Women head of the Church, marrying Gays and Ordaining Gay Bishops. My religion, change it or lose it.

This is a long-standing pet peeve of mine. I think it shows disrespect to individuals to speak of any group in generalities as in Why do they ALL think...? It shows an unwillingness to look at people as individuals. None of us, no matter what you believe or don’t believe are one-dimensional caricatures.
