What would you go "Deeper Than Logic" about?

(this is a question mainly about your spirit... not your religion)

That's a very intriguing question, and I think I can't pass it up. Logic is a wonderful tool that God has given us, and is remarkably simple. Many people believe that ultimately all events, if enough information is given, are predictable. However, that doesn't mean that logic can solve all issues, because we very simply don't have enough information.

I would definitely have to say that in the regard of spiritual life, it is impossible to gain a healthy spiritual walk soley on logic. That doesn't mean that logic is not useful in a spiritual walk, it just means that there is more to it than what can be measured. Some things can't be quantified. Love, for instance. You can't put it in a bucket and weigh it on a scale, you can't break it down in a beaker to some simple chemical reaction, it just is.

Logic even rejects itself as verifiable, for the only reason to believe in logic is because it is logical. That's a circular argument, which means at some point we have to put faith in logic in order to use it in the first place. Faith has no properties of its own, yet it exists.
Even our own thoughts, by logic, can not be proved to exist. There is no irrefutable evidence for them, yet they are the one most irrefutable fact about any of our existence. No one can deny the existence of their own thoughts.
Incidentally, this is the reason that empiricism is a self-defeating principle, because it says that anything that can not be proven with empirical evidence does not exist, yet the concept itself is a thought that cannot be proven with empirical evidence, which overturns the theory.

Thanks for a fun question to answer!

I think logic is great. Thinking off the grid is great too. There are many things that currently escape our grasp of logical or analytical thinking. Love is the oft cited example. Emotions escape us perhaps. I personally think that the word logic is oft overused. It has kind of become a meta word that describes a great many things. There are lots of things, like love and other emotions, that humans try to analyze. It's human nature.

Logic isn't one thing tho'. Seems like a lot of you think that Logic is Logic and that's it. Aristotilian logic is called Category Logic (If I remember correctly) but it's not the only one. There's mathematical logic, symbolic logic, and prepositional logic just to name a few. Each one relies on a certain number of axioms, basic ideas that are true for the logical system. There's really no reason why there can't be a emotional logic except emotions don't really have any axioms, only rationalizations. If you think about it we try to apply a certain logic to just about everything. Doesn't work, there really are things that we can't fully analyze, but we try anyway.

If I follow GodsNite's tortured logic correctly he's saying that logic is incomplete. I'm not quite certain why we should abandon empiricism just because there are some questions we can't answer. Some logical systems are complete. Most famously first order logic is a complete system. Goedel proved as much with his completeness theorem. His INcompleteness theorem tells us that no system can be consistant and complete. In otherwords the system cannot prove itself and be consistant. There will always be questions that go unanswered.

If you want to look at empirical thought merely from a logical point of view it niches in nicely to this as it involves the creation of a system. Science is empirical methodology. We're trying to find the system as we work. There will always be more to find out about the world. As Hamlet says "There are more things in heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy". Doesn't mean we shouldn't stop analyzing them tho'. As Richard Feynman said "It doesn't not do harm to the mystery to know a little bit about it".

I don't know if I got your question right.

Spiritually speaking, these are few things which defy logic:

Multitudes of soul, one spirit.

a soul is born not recalling the past previous incarnations but which the trails or clues just around its current environment.

We create our own reality through our subconscious.

That perfection of the spirit does not mean completeness as shown by the perfect lord Jesus who resurrected from the death to retrieve his body back to heaven.
