Many of my friends and I have horrible secrets that reside in the family, creating all types of stress and separation of family members. Most of these are molestation of young girls, by senoir household members, they deny their envolvement and sides are taken, ussually the senior women do not believe the victim and alienate them,,,, My question is should we bring these secrets out to be resolved, possibly ripping the family apart and being the "hated" family member for bringing up unresolved issues.... It seems growth and healing would occur after the shock of truth being exposed....

My opinion would be to bring the truth out, because there is always the opportunity for other young family members to be hurt. My guess would be that the older members are in denial, and may even know what's going on, but either want to save face or can't accept it.

Whether or not it will lead to healing is something you can best gauge. The thing is, even if it doesn't lead to healing within the older family members, you may be helping the young girls to heal and grow. I can guarantee that they feel very scared and alienated, and would be very happy to have anyone stand up for them.

If this is what your conscience says to do, then you should do it. It would be a very brave, very noble thing.

Our family got a similar truth out in the open....there are 2 sides now, and I get along with both. It really split us up.

I have to go to 2 thanksgivings, christmas, etc. It has been nothing but greif. Mom always cries about how the whole family will never be together for one meal ever again.

However, the "sinning" side have all come to Jesus, so I really can't speak against it. Funny how the side who judges thinking they are perfect are better candidates for Hell than the side who commited the horrible sin.

tough choice, pray and you will make the right one

Blessings in 2007,
David

no. whatever the secret, some things are best left alone. what if you discovered one of your parents cheated on the other and it was kept a secret because if ther truth came out it would probably lead to divorce. so what is better, have your parents divorce or keep a secret
