Perhaps a memory card reader. Some aren't very expensive and cost less than $5.

you can buy a PCI firewire card and have it delivered for under £20 see www.dabs.com ( not for a lap top computer)
failing that if the camera is a digital camera then the recording media should be able to be transfered direct to your computer either CD, or by memmory card slot. if no memmory card slots you can buy an external card reader for under £20 delivered again see www.dabs.com

there are lots of great software programs out there. your camera should have come with some sort of software for editing etc.
failing that adobe premier ewlements is great for professional effects. however microsoft windows XP has a program called movie maker built in and vista (at least the ultimat beta version i tested) had a great little video editing package built in.
order NOw and get the parts you need delivered within three working days under normal conditions (UK only, international may be longer or not available)

If it's a DVD camcorder, you can use Pinnacle Studio 10.5 to import the video from the DVD into the computer, then edit it. Studio runs about $80 and there may be a timed free trial--can't remember.
