I purchased a third beautiful little kitten on the weekend. One of my cats gets along with the new kitten but my other one snarls and runs away when she see's the kitten. I fear she could attack it should i force the 2 to get to know each other. Is there an easy way to get my older cat to become friendlier to the new addition. Food and toys wont work.

we are in a similar situation having aquired 2 kittens and already owning (or owned BY!) two older gentlemen cats

one of the older cats has taken to the kittens really well and even plays 'patacake' with one of them whilst the other is still not too keen if the hissing and humming (which i think is an attempt at a growl) is anything to go by.

the incidents are getting fewer and fewer as both the kittens and the gentleman cats are getting more used to each other

meanwhile we are feeding the younger cats separately and not leaving them alone together for extended period until some degree of harmony starts to break out

I agree time will eventually bring them together. I had a Siamese and she hated the 2 new cats we brought into the house, she never attacked but hissed, and swatted them quite a bit. Now her and the one cat are inseparable. She was almost 7 years older too. I always made sure that we gave her as much attention if not more, just to show her she wasn't being replaced. Eventually they will get used to each other. Even if they aren't ever good "friends" I don't think that she will ever attack her, viciously anyway.

Only time. Your older kitty feels threatened and territorial right now, but she will adjust soon enough. It's best to let her get to know the kitten on her own terms. Just make sure to give each cat lots of love and attention so that nobody feels left out.

if the cats are using the same litter box if so the older cat might be thinking that the kitten might be trying to take over. try getting them to seperate litter boxes. then to it might just take time for them to get ajusted to each other.

over time they will eventually get along.
they feel they are being violated so they end up fighting.
once they get a long they get to be very close to each other.
