Is it actually possible? Has anyone REALLY done it? ... If so, how? I have a huge desire to experience it, I keep trying and think I get to the "vibration" stage but then it just seems to fizzle away. Interested to hear from genuine people with actual experiences and advice on how to do it... guess I'm asking for someone to teach me how...
Yes I know they'll be some negative comments from some people, but please try and refrain from doing so, theres just no need for it!
My email address is on here... thanks to anyone with advice.
David.

Hi, David. I have had minimal success with OBE (Out of Body Experience), but I have had some. One time, I left my body and watched myself from a distance of maybe a couple of feet as I was teaching a class in Japan. That first experience was before I knew anything about it at all.
After that, I began studying and have found some good books on the subject, although I haven't found a lot on the net that was very helpful. Since that time, I've had a few experiences, but they are few and far between. It takes a LOT of patience and practice.
Off the top of my head, I can't remember all the names of the few good books I've read, but I do remember the names of two of the authors, which I'll put in the source box.
Good luck, man.
Have your heard the "jet engine" yet? Very scary the first time!

From my answer to http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AlPO.PIgu9ensDyvYpRr6LIgBgx.?qid=20070102221432AAZUOyw&show=7#profile-info-e3338f54861d8e0f0afe9e0ced19e4e6aa (read the source for my personal experiences):
Astral projection is a phenomenon whereby a person feels as though they are experiencing the world from outside their body. There is much debate as to whether the subject is actually "outside their body" or just very relaxed, and as to whether there is any spiritual aspect to astral projection.
I have heard anecdotes regarding people who claim to have projected themselves very long distances (i.e. to other countries that they have not physically visited) and could actually describe scenes that existed there. Unfortunately, such phenomena are very difficult to prove, and easy to disprove -- and it's quite possible for someone to forget that they saw that scene in a photo, or to simply lie about the experience.
Some people believe that astral projection is the "soul" leaving the body, in the same nature that it might do so in order to be leave a dead body (to be reincarnated, go to an afterlife such as heaven, hell or purgatory, or to continue to exist as a spirit (or "ghost") on earth.

Check out some of the metaphysical sites. You'll find a lot of good information on the subject. Also, most of the major bookstores have some good books on astral projection and shammanism. -Good journeys!

did it first when i was about 16 i think. since then i've tried (usually when i am trying to make myself aware of a sleep paralysis episode), but like you describe, things fizzle away after a strange vibration sensation. i'll spare the skeptics the details but don't hesitate to contact me just for sharing :)

i used to be able to do it
and after wards other folks would tell me the conversations they had with me when i was 'gone'
rather worrying really
so in my experience i would advise against seeking to do it as it leaves your body 'vacant' for whatever else is out there - not all of which are benign
