Treat ALL furniture with spray (especially mattresses), vacuum daily. Wash all bedding in HOT water. Put all stuffed animals and anything not washable in big plastic garbage bags for a week or so (lice supposedly can only live off of a host for up to 55 hours). Soak all hairbrushes, combs, clips etc... in straight alcohol (throw them away and buy new ones if you can)

I had a foster kid bring it into our house in October and I nearly lost my mind until an older lady told me an old remedy.....take everyone outside, spray or pour a bottle of cheap old rubbing alcohol saturating the hair, let it sit till evaporated then wash as normal. Surprisingly the alcohol DOES NOT dry you out like you would think it would but make sure to do it outside because the fumes are strong at first. Be careful to NOT get it into anyone's eyes, I made them all hold towels over their face and lay on the porch with their heads hanging over the edge. Comb until you are getting NO MORE nits off in the comb and make sure the hair stays damp while combing, the nits won't come out of dry hair as easily and also live lice do not move in wet hair and are easier to comb out.

I fought the dang pests for two weeks before doing this and it WORKED the first time.

Don't feel too bad, it doesn't mean you are dirty or not taking care of your kids, lice actually PREFER clean heads!

Sometimes you need more than one treatment to kill all of the lice. Did you comb through their hair with the special comb after your shampooed? Try using the Nix (or similar) one more time. If that doesn't work I'd try calling the MD for another suggestion. You're doing the right thing by cleaning linens daily. Did you throw away all old brushes and clean towels as well? Good Luck!

You probably need to buy the furniture spray, and then vaccum, and then throw away your sweeper bag, if it has a canister thing I would bleach it real good after sweeping, Wash everything in HOT WATER, and as far as brushes and combs go soak them in HOT BLEACH water for a few hours. Also you may want to call your doctor and tell him/her the over the counter shampoo isn't working and get the prescription stuff. And believe it or not you CAN use lamp oil. ( on the hair but watch out for the eyes) Also bag up they're stuffed animals/dolls with hair. Spray they're matress with the furniture lice spray too. You'll probably need 3 or 4 cans.

My daughter went through this too. They even told her to use Mayonnaise, like that is really going to work. Well one day she brought over a puppy they got for the girls and it had fleas bad. I have a dog as well, and I put some Hartz flea and tick oil, it comes in 3 orange little squeeze tubes, and you squirt it down the dogs back from head to tail, and rub it in. It smells like baby powder. The girls petted their puppy, and scratched their heads, plus the puppy slept with them. They haven't had lice yet, that was 2 years ago, after almost 7 years of constant shampooing with human lice medications. Also stay away from others who have lice. I know it is impossible with school, but family members could also be the culprit.

If your children have stuffed animals, put them in black garbage bags sealed up tight - sometimes we forget about the toys.
Also I have heard that Tea Tree Oil is a great treatment for lice.
It sounds like you are doing the right things and all of the suggestions listed before mine are good things to consider as well.

wow a tough one. we had it when the kids were young and had the same problem. It could be that you are combing out dead ones. Wash the linen in hot water. put the stuff you can't wash in plastic bags for a month. use the rid, I used the mouse with good sucess.keep with it. it is the only way. use tea tree oil shampoo by mitchal? to sooth the scalp.. which by now is sore. Good luck

i have only had one experience with them ..and was pregnant so had to watch what i used ..... and it wasn't pleasant. but it took a month to get rid of them and use Downy fabric softener soak dry hair and head in it then use the comb and comb their hair it can take hours at a time to get it well done. i kept some scalding water to rinse the comb in and keep the hair damp as you go through it for the first week do it a couple of time then about 1nce a week for awhile good luck oh_hell

You have to wash all of their clothes, pillows, everything. Also head lice won't live over 24 hours without having a live host. If you leave the home for 24 hours, all of the lice in the house will die.

Yikes! Maybe they are coming in contact with lice from other children, etc, and bringing them home. Or perhaps they're are eggs in your children's stuffed toys? Put their toys in a sealed bag for a month, and that should take care of that.
