Well, the sad - but entirely natural - fact, is that plenty of people find the fear of breaking society's mold attractive. Why? Because they share that fear, and view your willingness to break free of that mold as an implied criticism of themselves.
"Good guy" - it's a kind of moral judgement, isn't it? And the great majority of human beings simply take their morality direct from the norms and habits of society. Even when they behave in a noble, compassionate way, it's often not because they have made an internal decision, but simply because that is the norm. The same type of people are perfectly capable of behaving in a brutal, shocking way, if they find themselves in a larger group behaving that way. This is not because they're evil or animalistic deep down - but simply because they're doing exactly what they've always done, which is follow the crowd.
It's probably a pre-requisite for our species to function, that most people are like that. But it's also a pre-requisite that there are individual thinkers and doers who drag the whole thing forward.
Body modification is a way of expressing that individuality in your physical person.

I know "good guys/girls" that are modified and those that aren't....I also know alot of "bad guys/girls" that are modified and those that aren't. I don't think that it's trashy and I've actually never thought about the fact that I would be breaking society's mold by getting inked...getting inked in 3 weeks with a side portrait of my daughter. I just found something meaningful enough to me to tattoo it....didn't want to get a flash design and wanted something that I would like for life.
Same thing as the whole "tramp stamp" label...I know lots of girls with a tattoo there and they're FAR from trampy....
I guess it just depends on the crowd you hang with or the community you're in? My husband is prob considered a "good guy" - no tattoos or piercings or whatsoever and went to college when he was only 13, but he's fine with me getting a tattoo because he knows the meaning of the tattoo for me....he just said to really think about it to make sure I want it and I'm not going to regret it.
It's bad that people stereotype individuals with tattoos....it's the same thing as stereotyping re: ethnicity/race/sexual preference.....if people want to get them, who cares??? It's their body and they're doing it for themselves....not to impress everyone and their mother....

You'd have to define "good guy." I know really preppy, clean-cut guys who are misogynist stereotypical frat-boy assholes. Okay, it was freshman year at a party school, but still. Looks can be deceiving, and usually are.
I am from Florida, born in the Midwest/South, and a lot of the mods I saw there were trashy, in my opinion (i.e. navel rings, faded name tattoos, weird ankle flower things.) I now live in New York where body art is taken really seriously, and a lot of my friends have really beautiful mods. It's strange to hear from people outside this bubble of "body liberalism", because where I live, it's actually odd not to have any tattoos or piercings.
The trashiest thing I can think of is being so uncomfortable with getting a mod that you have to ask a group of strangers on Yahoo Answers if it's classy or trashy. I see this on here all the time, and it's depressing. It'll be classy if you're confident, and if anyone says otherwise, why do you want to date them anyway?

i agree that most "good guys" have been modifying themselves in some ways. people have different opinions. but there are also people who are so much into themselves, being moralistic and such, couldnt stand people being one bit different from them because (i've been through this), these people are "afraid" to face and accept anything different.
tattoos and piercings are definitely a personal choice. i've never ever met anyone with tattoos and piercings that go around judging people who arent like them. but i've seen alot of people who "disgusts" people with body piercings and tattoos; they just couldnt stop judging.
i see people who has body modifications as those kinds of people who do "walk the walk and not talk the talk".
i've met many guys who havent had any body modifications. some of them are nice, but lots of them are d.i.c.k.s.
but again, this does not refer to everyone who has body modification and who havent got one.

i know plenty of good guys who go for tattooed girls and who are tattooed themselves. society probably lumps them into a stereotype of being a "bad guy" but that is just as stupid as stereotyping any other group of people.
people are who they are regardless of if they have tattoos or not. many people just don't take the time to get to know "different" people before making judgements on them.
