The answer Levaquin is a good choice for soft tissue infections. There are other Rx choices, some in the same family like Cipro. Some older antibiotics are still used, such as Keflex, but they aren't as effective.

Some of the answers here mention hydrogen peroxide for wound cleansing. Hydrogen peroxide is no longer recommended by most wound care specialists. It can cause more damage and is a lousy antiseptic. Iodine is also no longer recommended either. The best wound cleanser is Hibiclens (chlorhexideine gluconate) followed by normal saline as a wound irrigant. Neosporin and sterile dressings to cover the wound. Don't forget a tetanus booster if one hasn't had one in 5 years.

The treatment of a puncture wound would vary, because it depends upon the size of the wound. If your talking about a pen puncture up to a key puncture, then I would suggest using "Triple antibiotic ointment" this is 3 times better than "neosporin" and it cost less.

If the puncture wound is larger than a 1/2 inch, then I suggest you see you doctor for medical stitches.

you should first pour in(on) hydrogen peroxide. this will foam out any dirt and foreign matter that may be stuck in the wound. then use something like neosporin and cover the wound with gauze and tape till you can get it looked at.

What created the puncture?

If metal - you need to get a tetnus shot immediately - if you have not had that shot in the last few years.

I would say to clean it with hydrogen peroxide (doesn't sting like some of the other stuff) Then maybe neosporin?
