You still need an efficient source of energy to pressurize the air. This is what the combustion engine does just as mentioned above. The big question is how to find an efficient source of energy which does not emit harmful products, the solution to which is unfortunately not proposed in your statement. I've heard of the water powered car, but as I understand it, the technology is not particularly efficient (I'm no engineer though)

We'll need a compressor - and a motor of some sort to drive the compressor - all piped and hooked up to a pneumatic motor to drive the wheels.

That's a lot of lost efficiency.

Why not just use the compressor motor to drive the wheels directly? Cut out the compressor and pneumatic motor (kind of like eliminating the middle man in economics).

Wait a minute - that's what we do now.

The idea seems really good. It would indeed save us a lot if this was invented - and fast.
I've had 2 more ideas, but I'm not too sure how they'll work out...:
A Car that runs on H20(water).
And my fave, a car that runs on Carbon Dioxide - and returning oxygen in the process (probably total fantasy, and will never happen)...
