Absolutely. Aside from giving you the social interaction we all need, it also sets an example for your children. Hopefully your friendships are good healthy relationships and role models for your child and their relationships. Man was not created to be an island.

Yes, I think having your own life and interests, in addition to your childrens is very healthy for everyone. Just because you are a parent doesn't mean you can't continue to be your own person. Friends can help you say connected to the adult world, and not be completely in kiddie land all the time. This will make you happy and feel as though you are both a parent, and a member of the real adult world. Your own happiness will be reflected in your attitude at home and around you children. Happy parents, will have happier children.

I just moved to a new state about 6 months ago and I still don't know that many people and I am expecting my first child in March. I don't think it will make any difference or make me a better/worse parent because I don't have many friends here.

well it helps in the way were u can learn from what they do, good and bad. every parent makes mistakes so its nothing to compete or judge over unless u see an abusive situation. having others in ur life is always good. just make sure they are the kind of people u feel ok being around ur kids.

It can. If you have friends who can give you advice and all... but not having friends doesn't make you a BAD parent or a worse parent.

yes, it teaches ur child social skills. ur kids imitate u and that's how they learn. it also teaches ur child to respect u more because they see u r a human being with other interests. another reason it makes u a better parent is that u are less stressed out because u have someone who is on ur level that u can interact with.

if u have no friends i don't think that makes u a bad parent.

it sure gets lonely sometimes and its nice to have someone other than my husband to speak to.

How can having friends effect how you raise kids? "I change my name72", gave a good answer. Forget the social life or the club life, concentrate on raising the kid. The only thing really positive in having friends of your peers that I can think of is if they have little kids that your kids can play with.
