Definitely get it done by a professional. Bleaching hair is very difficult, especially if you've not seen it done before, or you're bleaching long hair (different parts of the follicle bleach at different speeds, depending on the age, thickness and level of damage). You need to get your timing right or you'll start damaging one part of your hair before another has even started to lighten.
Getting your hair bleached professionally will ensure that you use the correct colour and strength of bleach, and help you get the best possible result the first time. Thereafter, you may wish to try maintaining it yourself - this will be less work for you than doing the initial dye job, and you'll have seen the way the hairdressers did it the first time to get an even coverage on your hair and avoid mess and spillage.
(As a side note, if I had your hair, I would take to it with some bright red hair dye and get it as close to fire engine/ferrari red as possible ;) much fun. Maybe an idea for your next colour change?)

just because you change your apperence, does NOT make you insecure!! I'm secure, and I change my hair about every 6-8 months! I like change, that's it. I get bored of the same stuff, very quickly!! That and I like to see the look on peoples face when I come runnin around the corner with pink hair, a new peircing! lol It's funny!!
If you're going to dye your hair that colour, you might want to get the colour closest to it, maybe a tad brighter. Dye fades after a while, and if you're going lighter from a dark colour, you want a brighter colour, because the darker it is, the harder it is to get light! I should know. My hair is dark brown, and it's shoulder length, and I have to use 2 boxes to get the clout that I want!
Depending on how long and thick your hair is, depends on how many boxes to get. If it's sort of long, while thick, get 2, just in case. If it's short and thin, only get one. Short and thick, one. Long and thin, 2, just in case. Just follow the directions, and you should be fine. Don't blow your hair dry, it'll just fry your hair. When it's dried a little, damp, take a look at the colour. If you want it brighter, use the other box. If you like what you see, keep the box for later, for touch ups, or give it to a friend or whatever, as a gift or a joke, or whatever.
I colour my hair at home all the time. The only time I ever messed it up, is when my kids come running into the bathroom and hit me. I was trying to do streaks, and wound up with chunks, so I jut covered the top part of my hair. And I had a nasty colouring scar on my temple for about a week. lol I looked awful with it!

in uncomplicated terms use a pre-lightner in case you have any type of depositing hair colour on the hair, or if your hair is a darker purple. Haircolor can in uncomplicated terms raise the organic colour so far, and you do no longer want to finally end up with orange colour. Haircolor would not raise haircolor. do no longer overlap onto your previous blonde highlights, as which will weaken the hair in those areas and make it extra possibly to interrupt off. Your superb wager could be to bypass to a salon and have a expert shield this type of technique. in case you don't be conscious top everywhere in the pinnacle you will finally end up with a terrible mess, and it will value you so plenty extra to get a corrective haircolor completed than it could have value you to have it completed top the 1st time. That and you will no longer danger the wear that the drugstore products would reason. in case you haven't any longer have been given a stylist, ask around. Referrals are the superb.

i am a hairdressers myself and yes it is possible i would recomennd going to your hairdresser though but if you are set on doing it at home then you would need to go to your local salon services get a blue powder bleach (this is an ash tone bleach that will help eliminate the red in your hair ) you will also need hydrogen peroxide 12%(40 vol) what to do is to take a scoop of the powder bleach and mix in the hydrogen peroxide until it is of a creamy consistancy when you applie it to your hair you need to keep an eye on your colour and when it is light enough just wash it of aftert his if there is any unwanted yellow or orange tones in your hair i would recommend that you use an ash coloured toner or a silver shampoo good luck i hope it works out

Lightening your hair is very tricky, it is best done by a professional. (in respone to one of the above replys, you should NEVER EVER use bleach with 40 vol peroxide this will blow the colour pigment apart and you will never get past an orange blonde. Not only this you will also most likely burn and blister your scalp with chemical burns) I say you should colour it, it would look great, but it is best left to the professionals.

You should use a creme or powder bleach with 40 volume peroxide to bleach out the red.and then use an ash blonde toner after to get the shade that you want.Red hair is the hardest color to lighten with out getting brassy under tones.

not without totally stripping the color first then adding the color you want.
there is not enough "green" in any hair color to take re out of red hair,, you'll be very strawberry blond. i hv light brown hair and hair dressers double and tripple the green that offsets the red and i still pull red every time ((said its my base color even if not seen))stripping your hair color out is soooooooooo damaging and looks horrible as it grows out!)) but check with a professional, new products come out all the time,, i recently had highlights with new stuff that wasnt' as strawberry (=
