My sister is going to London and she can only carry 50 lbs in her checked bag. So how much different in lbs are the two?

They should produce the same result. It will depend on the quality of your scale as to how accurate it is. I would recommend that you weigh yourself and then weigh yourself while holding the bag and calculate the weight of the bag by subtracting the two. I would think that you would get a more accurate result that way than setting the bag directly on the scale. Also if the weight is boarder line you might want to have room in a carry on so that you can pull something out of your checked bag to get under the wire. On international flights the fare penalty for an over weight bag can be substantial but they will give you an opportunity to reduce the load if that is practical.

Well, I travel a lot and I just used my scale at home and it was about accurate. If she can just pack the heavier things in her carry on since they don't weigh those. Good luck
