Most of our own self talk is hyper critical and negative to start with. And it sucks being down on ourselves all the time now, doesn't it. Kinda makes ya wanna give up and just plain eat, no?
Try this instead - get in touch with your real beliefs and values about food.
Make a list of what you want to accomplish that requires you to eat less....
Make a list of 25 perceived benefits from accomplishing this....it can be little things...it can be big things.....whatever....
Then ask yourself "what things that I value about food (i.e. comfort, pleasure) are in conflict with what I want...
That's where the problem is....
I'll give you an example......
Lets say you want more attention from the opposite sex....
Do you also fear it?
That could be something worth exploring - you might find you eat to prevent yourself from getting attention (people do it all the time)
You might decide you want attention from the opposite sex more than the pleasurable taste of a kind of salad dressing. Whatever.
This is your chance to grow - look at exploring and redirecting your beliefs and values and a lifestyle change WILL happen. But if you try to change the lifestyle first, you'll most likely not make many significant long term changes - and it sounds to me like the former is what you are after.

Easiest way to stop overeating bar none is to not buy the wrong kinds of foods. If its not around you cant eat it. Willpower is easier without the influences of the habit. Drink a large glass of water before sitting down to a meal or snacking.

I use this script: "I don't need food to comfort me. I am able to comfort myself" and repeat till I am able to make a serene assessment on whether I am hungry or not.
