My twins love games and playing on the computer. Can any parents, schoolteachers etc... give some suggestions?
A big "Thanks" in advance!

I closely monitor what my son & daughter do on the internet. I know there are many safe, educational & fun websites out there that my kids would benefit from. But I also
understand parents who would choose not to allow their children on the computer at all. I feel the benfits are great and with me being in the same room watching what they are doing it is safe. Thanks to the few who were concerned.

Hi
I also am a kid who is 11yrs. old (but my mind is a 9 yr. old) and I would like to share what I really do in my world. You see, some kids get influenced on their classmates about violence and those other stuff... That's what happened to my cousin. I am the type of kid who also loves to play on the computer. but just to make sure they dont go to any sites that are not kid-friendly, you should also get them interested on other things like sports, art, music and other stuff. Try asking your children on what they want to be when they grow up... When they say they don't know, try looking closely at what they do and what they like...

As a kid, I want to spend time with my parents and be treated like a baby... But most kids want to be mature and grown-up so fast... That is very important for you as a parent...

Our attitudes are related to what we do on the computer... You should be very aware on what our children are doing on the net. And make sure there are no violent or "green minded" stuff on the sites they go to.

An example of a bad website I know:

www.gaiaonline.com
- bec. some people use bad language and people invent how to do a lot of gross things there

Good websites:

www.neopets.com

www.clubpenguin.com

www.webkinz.com
(you have to buy a webkinz stufftoy first to have an account)

www.yahooligans.com

kids.nationalgeographic.com

There are several websites that are excellent for children. My kids like the following: barbie.com, nickjr.com and postopia.com. You can also do a search for kids games and you will get alot of websites to check out.

www.neopets.com [free online virtual pet with games etc!]

www.webkinz.com [you need to buy them each a pet in a store to get a virtual pet account!] - but soooo worth it - the pets run around $12 CAN and there are almost any animal you can think of - my daughter has a platypus! [she dresses it in pink fuzzy slippers and it plays in tournaments....]

www.nickjr.com

www.shockwave.com [a LOT of neat free games - bookworm is awesome!]

www.runescape.com [there is chat but safe chat - I monitor my 9 year old on here]

www.barbie.com

www.pollypocket.com

http://www.canadiangeographic.ca/cgkidsatlas

Thats just a start. Most news sites [ie cbc] have a kids online section, as do tv channels [Global]. ALSO on the above sites there are links to other similar sites [ie barbie has a link to Kelly Club etc!]

My kid is seven. I don't know what kid friendly speak is and have never used it. I didn't teach the kid to go, "potty." They go to the bathroom and use the toilet. I wanted to make sure they learned the right words for things before using any local dialect or a personal language of our own that no one else would understand. They did dub our nice neighbor lady, "Marcy," when they couldn't pronounce Martha. The neighbor insisted she get to keep to the name and has been Marcy ever since. Now, they've recently picked up, "dude," from school. They call their sandals flips. Aside from that, none really.

When My cousins use my comp...the LOVE Nick Jr. com and Playhousedisney.com. I personally like Nick Jr. because they can't click anything on the desktop. But yeah...other places are not as good and less enertaining. And if they are...they charge!
