I am in a 4 year relationship and yesterday I told my boyfriend (we live together) that I think I need some space. We have no huge problems just I feel I need some time to myself.
Well I get home today and he has a ring for me.
I didn't give him an answer because I feel like he is trying to guilt me in to changing my mind.
I don't know what to do.
He says he has had the ring for a few months and was waiting for the right time.
But he also says that no one knew about it.
I just want to die right now.

He wanted a pre nup and there were some things that I didn't agree with. Now that there is a written copy he says that things can be changed.

He wanted it to be signed first and I disagreed. Not because I wanted the ring just because I wanted it to be about love not money.

Some men think that when you say you need space it means I want a ring or I'm leaving. And he could be guilting you, or even really love you and want to marry you. You would really have to ask him whats up. If you don't want it then be honest. Tell him you are not ready at this point. You need a few days weeks to think it over.

well it's simple really, you've told him you want some space and this has scared him. He obvisoly loves you thats why he bought you a engagement ring (i'm assuming), I guess it comes down to weather you want to marry him or not because he does!
If you don't feel the same the decent thing to do is break up with him.

Sounds like you need some space and he doesn't understand or doesn't want you to have your space.
Why was now the "right time"? Seems odd. Be wary of power plays and entangling alliances.

Let us know what you decide.....

why did you need room?

Possibly your maturing and looking for a relationship that involves someone he will never be able to be.... kind of thing...
