They would probably catch a Trojan Horse but might miss a serious virus. A lot of times antispyware applications will remove the damage caused by a virus but will fail to catch the underlying culprit (Adaware SE for example will remove invalid registry entries, identified spyware files, etc. but won't actually remove the virus that is causing that havok. Once you restart your computer, Adaware SE will still keep finding these problems because the actual virus is still there, on the computer). An antivirus app like AVG http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10320142.html would be a better defense strategy against a virus.

I have Ad-Aware SE and Spybot Search and Destroy. Neither one checks for viruses. I have Norton's Systemworks along with Norton's anti-virus and firewall which check for viruses and spyware.

I suggest that you try to carryout system restore to a day previous to the day when there was no virus or any problems. It may be a few weeks or months back. You have to decide the date. Detailed instructions are posted at http://fixit.in/systemrestore.html
The problem is likely to be solved. Then,You insatll a standard antivirus soft ware such as Norton, AVG , Avast ( free antivirus software and Ad-aware, Ewido ( free spyware removers). You can download free softwares at
http://fixit.in/antivirus.html and http://fixit.in/spywareremover.html

No, they don't. And if they do, it's pure luck.

I reccommend Avast! Antivirus. You have to register, but it is free. I also like a program called antiVir. AVG is okay as well.

You can get avast from www.avast.com
AntiVir is available from www.free-av.com
AVG is available from free.grisoft.com

Hope this is of some help!

I don't believe so... two different functions. I use spyware doctor, and I'm very pleased with it, for spyware. I use micro pc-cillin on one comp, and kaspersky on another for virus protection.
