Strap on my Parachute and jump!!!!

A couple years ago, I would have prayed. Now, I think I'd have thoughts like "Well, in a couple minutes it's all not going to matter. But maybe we'll get through this. Where is the oxygen mask?" Honestly.
I'm 19, by the way, and I've been an atheist all my life - getting a lot more secure in it as time goes by, though.

I have come close to dying, when my car went off a cliff. The car was airborne and I could see the treetops. I was pretty sure that I was living my last few seconds. Adrenaline kicked in, and I became very calm, sort of like I'd been given a shot of morphine. I didn't "think" in the same way that a person who is not in mortal danger thinks. I forgot everything and everyone I knew, and just braced myself for impact. I guess that's what I'd do. Wait for impact.

Brace for impact.

Funny though that you should ask: several months ago I sailed through a typhoon in a 28ft sailboat. 40ft waves, 60 knot winds. For about 2 days, death was very close. Not once did I think of praying. It never crossed my mind. True story

It's also worth noting that the most common last utterance on flight-data recorders has nothing to do with God. It is (variously translated): "Oh, ****!"

Put my head between my knees as the handout says to, and kiss my a@@ goodbye.

I assume you are talking about the whole "there are no atheists in foxholes". I guess you could pray to every known god out there in hopes of a last minute reprieve, just in case.

And, I would make it known that if I live, I expect a full refund!!

I'd make sure that I read the emergency card, located the exits, the first aid kits etc. etc. etc..
After the crash I'd probably have to guide all those fools out of the flaming wreckage that were too busy praying instead of planning on surviving after the crash.

I don't know what I'd do unless I were faced with that kind of a situation. That's my honest answer. I could sit here and tell you that "I wouldn't pray to some kind of entity, that's for damn sure". But honestly? I really don't know; like I said, unless I were faced with the situation in reality.

I would cry and have see the err of my ways. I would get down on my knees and accept Jesus as my personal savior, see the truth in the teaching of Muhammad, ask Buhdda to protect me in my hour of transition to my next incarnation, wish I had been born to a Jewish mother, not sure how to become a Hindu if you aren't born into that. All of a sudden I would believe the crap in the Book of Mormon. I don't know much about animism but I would convert to that as well. And I would worship my ancestors. Did I miss any of the common mass delusions?

Hyperventilate? Hug my knees? If I were travelling with someone I'd make sure that person knew that I loved him or her. And then I'd turn my iPod over to my favourite song and try to maintain some dignity in the end.

Minutes away? I'd probably try to prevent the crash. If it was unavoidable, I would look for a safe place on the plan, or try to surround myself with padding or something.

Follow the flight attendant's & pilot's instructions. Hope that everyone survived. When you're crashing, everyone hopes they're going to have a last-minute survival.
