We asked our vet about carrots because our Chihuahua Stanly loves them, and she, just like your vet, said that they're a healthy snack for him, especially raw.

Cooked is okay, but you might want to see if he'll eat them without the salt.

She had a really short list of "people food" no-nos. She told us he is not to have grapes or raisins, tomatoes, citrus fruit, onions or garlic. And NO CHOCOLATE, our vet was very firm on that. And nothing with caffeine. No cooked bones, be careful to limit raw bones (constipation) and especially no poultry bones!

And over the year-and-a-half we've had Stanly, we've added to the "no" list from other sources: fruit pits, macadamia nuts, raw eggs (cooked eggs are okay), mushrooms, anything salty, spicy or sugary or simply too much of any one thing.

He can have milk, but only if it is lactose-free milk, as most adult mammals, including humans, can't properly digest milk sugar (lactose intolerance).

She also warned that the okay "people foods" are dog snacks or treats, and are not to be his whole diet. Because he's a small dog, she warned it would be very easy to let him get overweight from eating "people food".

Yeah dogs eat just about everything, lol. Feeding dogs carrots are safe but no need to cook them and for sure don't add salt! There are a few things dogs cannot eat like chocolate. Funny though, the dogs on my uncle's farm ate nothing but human food and did very well.

The carrot is fine, it's the salt I would be worried about. A treat I make for my dogs is to cut some sweet potato in sticks and bake them in the oven for a bit then turn the oven off and let them dry out. Makes a good chew that they love.
Something good for your dog's digestive system that you can add a few spoons of in their food is pumpkin pie filling, canned and not spiced.
Also plain yogurt is really good too.

no salt, carrots the mini kind are good for the dogs gums and teeth, help remove tartar, but if he/she does not like them, they will not eat them. Keep trying, if not, just don't do it. You may want to put a tiny bit of garlic powder on the carrot, that helps to keep fleas away, not garlic salt tho!

Raw carrots are better. When you cook them you cook out the nutrients and dogs don't need salt. My 5 month old Bichonpoo loves baby carrots she could eat a whole bag if I let her.

You must go to the same vet as my dog!

My dog hates carrots. I will try boiling it as you do. I would think that too much could upset the dogs tummy, so I would watch quantities.

Nah, Carrots should be fine, but if you 're adding salt only ever give it as a treat and try not to add salt to it.

Don't give him broccoli ever though, or onions as they are bad for him. Just thought i'd give you a little more info :)

Yes they are a great and healthy snack for your dog. Mine love them. I also give them a variety of veggies. I notice they have very shiny coats too. By giving them veggies for snacks it is less calories then the dog snacks so they wont become over weight. It's cheaper too.

Not a bad idea at all. I feed my dogs all kinds of fresh vegetables all the time. It good for them. Some dogs are picky but most will try anything.
