Well, I really am an atheist.
I don't know, I don't think you really can group all the atheists together, like you said, because there is no Book of Atheism. But we do all have some things in common.
Like, often an interest in science, and no problem with things prohibited in the Bible like gay marriage and abortion and evolution.
I don't know, even though we're not technically bound together by any book or set of laws or anything, I still feel a connection with other atheists. For example, I see someone belongs to an atheism group on facebook (yeah, okay, lame :) ) and I automatically feel warm to them - like, oh, you're one of us.
So, even though I don't think it's safe to lump everything about atheism together, I'd say we're not totally disparate. Cheers!

A theist believes in a supernatural deity. An atheist is just not a theist. I'm not sure how much prediction you could make about how an atheist might behave. They probably would not pray if prayer means talking to a specific deity, although they might meditate, or practice positive visualization, etc. They would probably make moral decisions not based on what a particular religion says but based on local laws, what's acceptable among their peers, how they have been raised, etc. They might still attend church (because they like the companionship or the music or whatever). They might celebrate holidays (you don't have to believe in God to like sparkly pine trees and reindeer). They might even participate in weddings or funerals in/at churches (because there's no practical alternative at hand). They're not likely to argue in favor of theism, to vote or lobby for more religion in government or schools, etc.

A real atheist is someone who really doesn't believe in any god. That's all the term stands for. There is no belief system, a standard set of value or a conduct code for atheists. Atheists are very different individuals and they set their own individual values. So it's not really possible to criticize all atheists for their ideals or values since they don't all share them. You'd have to focus on individuals.

I personally think there is more to atheism than just the denial that there is a god. There really are people who deny there is a God out of fear or defiance. They still fear or half believe in the supernatural. An atheist is someone who has overcome that fear...I hesitate to say never had the fear...because who among us didn't fear unreal things as a child?...although there are some who never believed God was real... A real atheist is one who is quite comfortable being without belief in supernatural beings, and isn't frightened by supernatural stories presented to them as being truth.

An atheist is simply someone who doesn't believe that any gods exist. You can't classify them as a group as this is the only trait they all have in common. Raelians are atheists, Flat-earthers are atheists, some Buddhists are atheists... And then there are people like me who don't subscribe to any kind of dogmatic group. We simply base our lives on what we deem important.

Atheists can't do this with theists anymore than theists can do this with atheists. Neither is an ethical philosophy, they only address the belief or non-belief in a supernatural being.

"Real" Atheists must disagree with the "real" Christians. Well, they say that all the time. Did you know that some Christians are not "true" or "real" Christians according to some other Christians?
