I have used Ubuntu, it works well, and I had no issues with it. I am not familiar with the other versions, but you should be pleased with Ubuntu. I installed it on my dell inspiron e1505. The only problem was getting the wi-fi to work, after 5 min of tweaking it was up and working. I would guess Red hat Linspire, would also be a good bet, as they are one of the top names in Lunix OSes.

for the best supported Linux it has got to be Novell Suse Linux
if your new to Linux you get all the manuals on how to install, run it, and you can download the 32 bit or the 64 bit systems on (5) cd's or the DVD version, the new version supports 3D desktop or you can download the live DVD version of Suse Linux enterprise desktop. or Suse Linux 10,2
now that Microsoft has partnered with Novell Linux it shows which linux version is the best
OH by the way Suse Linux was the first version of Linux to come out,

You'll get a dozen answers to that, with reasons for each. However, if you are asking this question, it implies that you are evaluating and do not have a specific environment / application solution to cater for. In such a case, it makes no difference whatsoever which version you install. Go ahead and use whichever one you see first. Once you've had the chance to play around with it, you'll be in a better position to decide which suits your particular needs.
