I dont know where some people get there Bible study classes from - how could John in the first century be writing about the Catholic church or the Protestant Church - they didnt exist yet - Babylon the Great is a false church, like some of the responders said - that is going to be different depending on the time frame you live in, lots and lots of false churchs have and will exist it is not one specific type of demoniation or religion -
I suggest you get a book that will help go through the imagery and the symbolism if you are really interested

There are two, religious and political. Babylon in the Bible is symbolic of something that is pseudo r false. The false religious Babylon is usually considered Catholicism, spoken about in Rev 17, because it fits the description of t to a "T". The political Babylon is mostly considered the USA. However if Christ does not return for another 100 years who knows just what the political scene will be like.

Babylon is symbolic for Rome. {This may be infered from 1 Peter 5:13 (actualy written in Rome).} The question them becomes; who is Rome? Catholicism claims the religious mantle of Rome, but this is by no means the best candidate. The Roman poet (prophet?) Virgil, also uses the term Babylon to refer to Rome. Virgil's Fourth Eclogue Pollio (37 B.C.) was viewed by the founding fathers of the United States as a prophesy of the U.S.! This claim is made in the Great Seal of the U.S. "Novus Ordo Seclorum" as this variant to this latin phrase was only found in Virgil's Pollio. The new Rome! The U.S. government is patterned after the Roman Senate and Executive Branch etc. U.S. laws civil and criminal flow from the Roman legal system etc. Even the English language is a derivative of Latin. By the way Rev.'s 666 means "Roman" in Latin, Greek, and Hebrew.

The Babylon mystery religion spoken of in the last days is clearly European modernism and socialism, coupled with Protestantism, with its' confusing assortment of beliefs, widely varying bible interpretations, and over 30,000 different denominations, many of European origin.

The Whore of Babylon is the false communion practiced by the Protestant groups, which due to their break from the true Church, remains simply bread and wine (or worse, crackers and grape juice) when Jesus was unequivocal about the authentic Eucharist being his real and substantial body and blood.

The Christian Zionism practiced by many of the evangelical protestant groups will set the stage for the rebuilding of the Jewish temple and will give rise to the anti-christ, who will persecute the true church, which is the bride of Christ, while claiming to be god.

This will bring on the end time tribulations, leading to the ultimate return of the real Jesus Christ.

Study Exodus and the events surrounding the plagues of Egypt for numerous parallels between those days and the time of the end.

Also, note the sculpture of the woman riding the beast outside the EU headquarters in Brussels, and the Tower of Babel motif in the design of the southern EU parliament building, located in Strasbourg, France.

Babylon the Great is a system that is the antithesis of The Spirit that created all things.

What and/or just who that might be is obscure to most but really obvious.

Babylon is the symbolic name of Rome, is geographically described as the great harlot. The punishment of Babylon is described as a past event and, metaphorically, under the image of the great harlot who leads people astray into idolatry

Well its best to undestand Revelation in its context, that is late 1st century A.D. Babylon was a code to refer to Rome. Look up Babylon in any good Bible dictionary and it will explain this.

I believe that it is the Roman Catholic Church.

There are many Biblical facts proving this, and I have not yet seen any prophecies in Scripture which point otherwise.

If you would like to watch a slideshow animation documenting all of the historical facts behind my belief, go to the below link.

Again, there are many, many prophecies which prove this, when linked to historical and current events.

May God abundantly bless you all! Revelation 22:21 to everyone!

P.S.-If anyone has Biblical prophecies to disprove this, or would like more information, just send me a PM on my profile page.
