to answer your question, it is because that is what preachers preach: that it has an answer for everything. I don't believe it is a history, science, psychology, etc book. I believe it is a book to help us get to know God.
The New Testament is like the sequel to the Old. It isn't a "saying it right" the first time kind of thing. Christians use the Old Testament to show us how far we have fallen.
For your rant, a lot of the contradictions that seem to be there disappear if you study it in its original language and in context of the culture of the time. Ancient Greek, Hebrew, and Arabic are hard to translate into our English vernacular.

The Bible doesn't claim to be the repository of all truth. You can't read the Bible and learn the intricate details of building a space shuttle. It never claims those things. The Scriptures are sufficient to bring one to a knowledge of God & salvation. They're also sufficient to equip a man of God to be competent for every good work. Read the Bible again, okay?
And the "New Testament" wasn't written because God "forgot" to mention something. God's work of redemption occurs in time. It unfolds as time unfolds. God shows His plan by calling Abraham, choosing Isaac, sending the Israelites to Egypt, raising up Moses, bringing them out of bondage, forming the Mosaic law with its tabernacle & rituals...all to point to the ultimate picture that these events represent - Jesus Christ.
God works in time. He didn't just drop the Bible & say, "There you go. My Word." He used men who wrote as they were carried by the Holy Spirit...through thousands of years. The Bible is a record of their writings.
Please, study the history. Don't just slam it because everyone else does.

you have a lot to learn about christianity. First of all you have to realize that you have to have an open mind towards God. Then you have to get rid of all of this negativity.
The answer to the second question is that the new testament was written after Jesus was born. God so loved the world that he gave us his son, and whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.

Dopplegan, I heard your rant, and it's acknowledged. But it's also a daily harrassment for Christians on this website. If you check, you will see that you are probably the 2000th question written like this.
So, I'm sorry you don't agree, but for a lot of us, the Bible makes a lot of sense. When you pray and ask God to reveal his wisdom and it teaches you how to get along with people (ie, Sermon on the Mount for one), how not to go to bed angry, how to live in harmony with other people, how to work hard, how to be diligent and honest, I think those are pretty good rules don't you???
And I think if more people followed those same rules about how to treat other people, there would be a lot less problems in this world.

I believe the Bible is the written word of the True & Living God.. If you don't believe that, leave it alone. After all this is America, and you have freedom of choice. So do I.
Have a good night.

Its obvious
you haven't read the book, Archie Bunker.
Its not smart to rant about something you don't understand.
There is comfort in it, and wisdom, and strength for all times, good and bad times. Ranting on this website won't give you more understanding. You're always welcome to expand your horizons, find the freedom to learn and experience it instead of stewing in misery and frustration. You don't know what you're missing.

people are brainwashed into believing it. One sign of brainwashing is a person who will not objectively consider facts as presented and are unable to change their minds.
