It's more than likely an allergic reaction to something in the air, food, or surroundings.

It's probly just an eye infection, or maybe a little cold in his eye. They often clear up by themselves, but it's been a couple days, so I'd take him to the vet, and tell the vet it's an eye infection. He'll put in some gel, and give you the rest. It's not hard to put it in the eye, unless you have a large dog, or a powerful dog! Then you might want to get some help lol!
It could also be allergies. Depending on where you live, there could be alot of dust, or it could be something you have in your home. I wouldn't worry to much about it, but I'd worry enough to take him to the vet. I think he'll be ok. It's probly just an eye infection.
BTW What type of dog is it? Dogs with droops eyes, basset hounds and blood hounds, are prone to eye disorders, which can cause the dog to go blind. They get infections very easy, because the pink part of the eyelid is almost always showing.

I had the same problem with my dog and i referred to my vet for advice. he said as lond as it's a greyish color that theres nothing to worry about. But if it were to turn to a yellow color then it could be an eye infection and it would need treatment. So dont worry but keep an eye on it. Good Luck.

like what everyone's saying your dog's eye might be infected. My dog had eye gunk problem, so I took him to the vet and they prescribed him Gentamycin eye drop, and it stopped within 4 days.

my shitzu has the same problem- your pup probably has no tear ducts. its not a big deal really- go to your vet and they'll prescribe a daily eye medication that keeps the "eye snot" from forming. best wishes!:)

it could be a number of things, infection in the eye, blocked tear duct, allergy, etc etc he needs to be seen by a vet. putting the wrong drops in your dog's eye yourself can make it worse and eye infections can turn very dangerous very quickly. i would take him in tomorrow. good luck.
