You should be able to tell when you have an orgasm... we probably need more details to answer this better.

Sweetheart, you haven't had a true orgasm if you don't know it. The muscles clench, you break out in sweat and if you are truly lucky you nearly lose your mind and pass out. Sounds to me like your lover is stopping way too early... like when you are just starting to get into it. Do not take anyone Elses perspective that you had an orgasm.....when you have a true orgasm you will know it!

I don't quite understand how you could know it HAS happenned and not know it is ABOUT to happen. What do you feel JUST BEFORE you realise it has happenned? You should feel the tension rise in your body. Kinda like you are about to explode. Sometimes legs will quiver or other parts of your body. Breathing will be accellerated and more heavy. Actually you may also feel like you are about to "wet" yourself. You may also feel kind of like a throbbing feeling JUST BEFORE you actually climax. Kind of hard to exlain.....Hope it helped some.

Maybe you are mistaking a climax with an orgasm. or when you come. you do not necessaraly have an orgasm when you do either of these things. Believe me you have probably not had one yet. it took me years, to find someone to do me just right. and then...like majic.
