i find it scary that your surgeon cannot be reached!! you just had surgery today and may have more serious complications-there has to be some way of reaching him/her. if they do have an answering service-call them as many times as it takes to reach your dr.
nausea is common after surgery b/c alot of people do not handle the anesthesia well-it's hard on our bodies. it can also be caused by the narcotics (pain killers) you are commonly given after surgery. if you are taking these, make sure to take them with food.
i'm saddened that your dr didnt give you a prescription for anti-nausea medication.
for now, try drinking clear liquids in small, frequent amounts. take 1-2 tablespoons of liquid every 10 mins. you can increase this slowly if you are able to keep it down.
try things like
-sprite,7-up, or ginger ale
-water
-gatorade
-suck on popsicles
try to avoid solids foods until the nausea lessens but you can try these-they will absorb extra stomach acid and can reduce the nausea.
-saltine crackers
-plain toast
-rice
if you start to vomit or the nausea doesn't seem to be letting up over the next few hours-take a trip into the emergency room. being that it's not been over 24 hours since you've had surgery, there could be something serious going on and you'll need to have it checked out. In addition, dehydration could make your recovery time longer than it needs to be and puts you at risk for getting very sick

Well, I don't know what kind of surgery, but the nausea 1) may be anesthesia related 2)are you taking pain meds, often they can cause nausea 3) what kind of surgeon is it that cannot be reached (or a cover?) This is illegal wherever you are. If this is a genuine question I am appalled. I have worked for a group of surgeons since getting an RN 5 years ago, and if our practice did that, the would risk losing their licenses. If it becomes unbearable, go to an Urgent Care or ER. And report the surgeon in the morning.

Don't drink 7 up or any clear pop--it only make the nausea worse. The best thing is to no take anything by mouth--it will only aggrivate the nausea. You have to let the anesthesia wear out of your system. You may also be taking pain medication which might be causing your nausea. Call your doc--he should have an answering service and he may able to call in something to your pharmacy for the nausea. If worse comes to worse--go to ER and they can give you something for the nausea.

Your Doctor is an *** if he is unreachable the same day he just operated on you. As for the post-op nausea, I threw up ONCE the same day of my surgery and at home which is an Anesthesia effect - do not what to tell you if you throw up more than once, in any case be on the careful side and go to your local ER.
Good luck and don't panic or read too much on the Internet, act cautious and do what's best.

There are some excellent anti-nausea drugs. She needs to call her doctor ASAP and get him to phone in a prescription at a nearby pharmacy so she can take it--he can order a suppository since vomiting people shouldn't take oral pills. Or she should go to the emergency room, since the vomiting might indicate something more serious is wrong. Does she have a fever? Don't worry about it being the day after Christmas--this is what doctors are for!

folowing my surgery years ago I had a bout of nausea and in my case it was down to the pills and post op medication i was taking (tyically you are on strong pain killers containing morphine this can cause the symptoms you are describing.
as for a solution short of stopping the current medication and changing to a different one by seeking help from your doctor or by contacting your local hospital for advice there is not a lot you can do to stop the feelings.
I ended up sufering the agony rather than suffer the constant nausea.
and i'm still in constant agony today due to the surgery on my spine failing to correct the initial problem.
so good luck and get well soon

You are probably having a common reaction of the anesthetic they used. If you cannot reach your doctor and the vomiting doesn't subside then you need to go to the emergency room. Sometimes they can give you a medicine like reglan that will help reduce the vomiting and nausea.

This happens to me each time that I have surgery. It is your body getting rid of all the drugs in your system. I know that it is miserable. Try munching on some saltine crackers. Slowly let them dissolve part way in your mouth before swallowing. Stay laying down. Place ice chips in your mouth for water. You need extra fluids. Tomorrow should be better. Get some sleep

you can't reach your doctor the same day as surgery???
the same thing happened to me when i had spinal fusion.
because i was in the hospital, we bypassed food and drink all together and had a constant IV drip.
You may just want to call your local pharmacist, they might be able to recommend OTC's
