The full name of the religion is "Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses". They are genuine Christians.
Sadly, trinitarians repeatedly pretend that Jehovah's Witnesses are not Christian. Trinitarians use an artificial, trinity-specific definition of the term "Christian" which excludes anyone who does not believe that Jesus is God Himself, rather than the Son of God. Interestingly, pagans in the first century pretended that Christ's followers were Atheists(!) because the Christians had a somewhat different idea from the pagans about the nature of God.
Jehovah's Witnesses teach that no salvation occurs without Christ, that accepting Christ's sacrifice is a requirement for true worship, that every prayer must acknowledge Christ, that Christ is the King of God's Kingdom, that Christ is the head of the Christian congregation, that Christ is immortal and above every creature, even that Christ was the 'master worker' in creating the universe! Both secular dictionaries and disinterested theologians acknowledge that Jehovah's Witnesses are a Christian religion.
The Trinitarian arguments are intended to insult and demean Jehovah's Witnesses, rather than to give a Scripturally accurate understanding of the term "Christian".
In fact, the bible most closely associates being "Christian" with preaching about Christ and Christ's teachings. Review all three times the bible uses the term "Christian" and note that the context connects the term with:
"declaring the good news"
'teaching quite a crowd'
'open eyes, turn from dark to light'
"uttering sayings of truth"
"persuade"
"keep on glorifying"
(Acts 11:20-26) [The early disciples of Jesus] began talking to the Greek-speaking people, declaring the good news of the Lord Jesus... and taught quite a crowd, and it was first in Antioch that the disciples were by divine providence called Christians.
(Acts 26:17-28) [Jesus said to Paul] I am sending you, to open their eyes, to turn them from darkness to light and from the authority of Satan to God... Paul said: “I am not going mad, Your Excellency Festus, but I am uttering sayings of truth and of soundness of mind. ...Do you, King Agrippa, believe the Prophets? I know you believe.” But Agrippa said to Paul: “In a short time you would persuade me to become a Christian.”
(1 Peter 4:14-16) If you are being reproached for the name of Christ, you are happy... But if he suffers as a Christian, let him not feel shame, but let him keep on glorifying God in this name
So why do anti-Witnesses try to hijack the term "Christian" and hide its Scriptural implications? Because anti-Witnesses recognize that it is the preaching work that makes it clear that the relatively small religion of Jehovah's Witnesses are by far the most prominent followers of Christ:
(Matthew 28:19,20) Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded

Yes we are Christians. No we do not have the mistaken impression that Jesus is God as this is in no way Biblical. We of course recognize him as Jehovah's only begotten son. A good example of Jesus not being God lies in the fact that he died and was raised up. In the Bible we see that the dead are conscious of nothing. They cease to exist. If Jesus was God, then he could not have died and raised himself up. Had he been able to bring himself back from the grave then he would not really have been dead. Satan is the Father of the lie. Such lies as the Trinity belief originate with Him not Jehovah.
As to the letter, the young woman should be commended for being concerned about spirituality. However, if in fact the young man is a Witness it is extremely doubt full he would date her as she does not follow Jehovah. As to whether or not she could "Change his Religion" the answer is NO. Only he can decide what he believes. Entering in to a relationship with the hope of changing the person you supposedly are happy with is a disaster waiting to happen.

Here is the ChristianAnswers.Net "Statement of Faith" http://christiananswers.net/eden/faith.html
JW.org is the official web site of the Jehovah's Witness. Read though that site to get official declarations on what the JW believes and does. In contrast, CARM.org is the Christian Apologetics and Research Ministry, which does not ascribe to JW theology. Here is CARM's appeal to JWs. http://carm.org/read-this-first-jehovahs-witnesses

The two links above are the best resources for seeing differing viewpoints on this topic.
Some JW interactions:
I know a non-JW pastor who was a former JW, whose parents are JWs. I sat with a JW in McDonalds and we had a lengthy conversation. In another town, I met a JW in the local library. He was kind, but almost immediately called his JW leader (similar to a priest) and had me speak with the leader to see that I joined that church. Most of my encounters with JWs are positive.

First and foremost, Jehovah's Witnesses are Christians. See the definition of Christian here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian
Notice it says: A Christian is a follower of Jesus of Nazareth, referred to as the Christ. Christians believe Jesus to be the Son of God
Secondly, why would he go to hell if as most Christians say, "There is good in all religions."
Third, more likely than not, if he is interested in dating someone who is not one of Jehovah's Witnesses, she doesn't really need to worry about his devotion to Jehovah.

I'm not a JW, but based on their beliefs, my guess is that if this gentleman knows you are not a witness, and he is still willing to "date" you, he is most likely not baptized and is probably just studying and thinking of becoming a committed witness(but is not one). Most of the people in that religion, do not mix socially with people who are not witnesses, whom they call "of the world", and definitely not for dating or marriage.

Jehovah’s Witnesses
Definition: The worldwide Christian society of people who actively bear witness regarding Jehovah God and his purposes affecting mankind. They base their beliefs solely on the Bible.
What beliefs of Jehovah’s Witnesses set them apart as different from other religions?
(1) Bible: Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that the entire Bible is the inspired Word of God, and instead of adhering to a creed based on human tradition, they hold to the Bible as the standard for all their beliefs.
(2) God: They worship Jehovah as the only true God and freely speak to others about him and his loving purposes toward mankind. Anyone who publicly witnesses about Jehovah is usually identified as belonging to the one group—“Jehovah’s Witnesses.”
(3) Jesus Christ: They believe, not that Jesus Christ is part of a Trinity, but that, as the Bible says, he is the Son of God, the first of God’s creations; that he had a prehuman existence and that his life was transferred from heaven to the womb of a virgin, Mary; that his perfect human life laid down in sacrifice makes possible salvation to eternal life for those who exercise faith; that Christ is actively ruling as King, with God-given authority over all the earth since 1914.
(4) God’s Kingdom: They believe that God’s Kingdom is the only hope for mankind; that it is a real government; that it will soon destroy the present wicked system of things, including all human governments, and that it will produce a new system in which righteousness will prevail.
(10) Apply Bible counsel: They believe that it is important to apply the counsel of God’s Word in everyday life now—at home, in school, in business, in their congregation. Regardless of a person’s past way of life, he may become one of Jehovah’s Witnesses if he abandons practices condemned by God’s Word and applies its godly counsel. But if anyone thereafter makes a practice of adultery, fornication, homosexuality, drug abuse, drunkenness, lying, or stealing, he will be disfellowshipped from the organization.
We believe that Jesus Christ died for all mankind and he is our Savior and reigning King sitting at his Fathers right hand at this time.
No where in God's Word is the word trinity!

JWs have some error in their teaching. Though I would guess some Christians go to a JWs Church Assembly.
In Christianity, we are saved by grace and not by works. It is the gift of God through faith.
It is written that whosoever confesses Jesus Christ Lord and believes in their heart He raised from the dead, they will be saved (eternal life).

JW consider themselves christian but do not really follow the definition of Christian. Because they believe that Jesus was not God in human form. They do not believe in the 3 persons of the trinity as in Father, Son, and HOLY Spirit. They are a cult.

JW s are not Christians they are a cult. They do not believe that Jesus was God or even that he was the Son of God.
There is no way a person can be a Christian unless they believe in the divinity of Jesus!
