What's the reputation of the Jeep Liberty in terms of mechanical reliability and fuel economy? How's comfort?

I just went to Consumer reports. The only thing rated better that good (their medium rating) was the front seat comfort. The fuel economy was poor, and owner satisfaction was only fair. There are probably better choices.

Looking at the ratings for the used ones, the 2003 and 2004 model years were rated very good over all.

There was a major recall on a lot of Libertys in 2006 and they have been knocked around for a lot of reasons. It is not one of Jeep's better vehicles.
