ford sucks......just kidding.I am a a.s.e mastertech certified and also a smog technician here in california,if buying a ford i always recomendd a truck instead of a car since they seem to have a better performance,2004 ford, what engine you have 6 or 8,there is plenty of good things as bad like all vehicles sometime too many to name......how about getting a professional diagnostic(compression testing, the most important i'll say)and perhaps a smog inspection, that will give you a good idea....all vehicles are different as weird as that sounds, since the driving and maintenance has a lot to do with it,but most important, try not to fall with the vehicle before making sure everything is in order, otherwise you will have a very biased decision...good luck in your purchase!

Pretty much no real major problems that can be pattern except for issues with some vibrations, spark plugs and fuel injectors on the trucks...
They had some where the fuel injectors leaked causing spark plugs to foul out.. and the spark plugs are not known for coming out at plug change time (I recommend going to a Ford dealer at tune up time)
The vibrations usually were tire issues on the trucks.. but there was some that had to have rear ends put in them.
But at the same time, I've seen a few already at 100k+ miles with no problems... They are dependable and pretty much have no problems other than the ones above.... Usually by the time the warranty is out, most of the problems I talked about above (excpet for the spark plugs) were taken care of by Ford.
But I do agree with the other guy.. Unless you need 4WD, or the price is that good, don't worry about the 4WD as the gas economy is about a mile or two less than a 2WD.

note:
1989 ford escort gt.
285k miles up to june '06
rebuilt the engine and tranny for first time in it's life.
"project car"
now i got that off my chest i can say, if ford, get a truck?
thats not true.
my father just got an '05 supercrew, 4x4 the works.
one thing you have to be sure is to get the bigger engine.
the dealer tricked him, made him think it was a 5.7 stead of a 4.7.
didn't know what he was talking about basically. found out later...
very very nice sounding engine though. didn't take offroad, but my uncles '97 supercab has electronic crap, lockers everything stock.
climbed this hill, i tryied and couldn't at the time, i had an older bronco rockcrawler custom THING.
you CAN actually see over the tailgate. can see everything while driving it. comfortible, to drive into town or cross country.
Cons.
very difficult to park.
guess im not used to it.
wimpy lift and tires for the 4x4.
should think about getting an FX4
other then that. it;s awsome

I've tryied all these out.
The Ford is my father's though.
I'd say better off with GMC 2500hd
But for trustworthiness, i'd say Ford F-150

I'm gonna give the Red Sox an A- They won five of six games and won both series, sweeping the Twins and being now only half a game behind the Yankees. Lackey pitched a one-hitter through six innings yesterday and Clay Buchholz is still undefeated, entering this week with a 1.78 ERA. Now they face a weak White Sox team who could take only two out of four against the now overrated Angels before they come back home to play for the last four times this season against the AL Central leading Indians. edit: i should mention that lester is undefeated as well with a 2.72 ERA and a complete game one-hitter a week and a half ago.

There were only 2 safety recalls on 2004 F150.
Neither of which were Ford recalls, but recalls of replacement of factory equipment.
One is/was for a fuel filter manufactured by UFI Fuel Filters, USA
NHTSA- ODI # 06E056000
The other is/was for replacement exterior lights manufactured by Anzo USA, inc
NHTSA-ODI # 06E023000
Since neither recall is/was Ford OEM equipment, they would not be handled by Ford, but by those 2 companies.
2004 was a 1st year redesign & is highly acclaimed.
Ford is #1 when it comes to trucks & you will be very happy with your new truck !

dont get the 4X4 unless you need it. most people don't use it and wonder why it don't work when they when they need it. also 5.4 not good on gas but great on power (about 14 Mpg maybe 10 in town). Ford houses vary all over, mine i wouldn't buy another one from but 65 miles away does a good job.
