She hasnt abadoned it!!!

Has she got a male as he'd need to make it fertile, otherwise it wouldnt hatch anyway!!

They wait untill they have layed atleast 2-3 eggs before they even beging to incubate/sit on them,

Also if u was to hatch the egg yourself it requires constant turning through out the day,

When it hatches the baby needs feeding every HOUR for atleast the first 13-15 hours by syringe (the mum wont take it back) then after that every 2-3 hours, and then the time gradually has bigger intervals

Have you really got enough time to rear this chick yourself?

Have you ever had experience? They require hand rearing formula are right temprature or u can give the bird crop bird if to hot or sour crop if to cold which results in death. or u could feed it to quick and it could swollow food wrong way into lungs and "drown" to death!

You also cant miss feeds as the chick when older will be prone to sudden weight loss and die and also it always got to be kept warm not to hot not to cold.

Please look at the bigger picture before you go trying to hatch it and rear it yourself as it requires alot of hard work (im a breeder)

But other than that just sticking it under a light bulb and leaving it will fry the embryo anyway!

Well, that sounds cold to me!!!
First question I have is... was the bird with a male?
Is the egg fertilized?
They do lay eggs that arent fertilized, just as chickens do.

Assuming the female was with a male, then I would move the cage in your room, or at least somewhere warmer. Give the bird privacy. Does she have a nesting box or an appropriate nesting area? If this one egg doesnt end up hatching, give it time. They should mate again. With parakeets, I think they lay eggs a couple days apart. If this is the first egg laid, then leave it alone. She should come to it to lay the others.

I bred parakeets in my younger years, and loved watching the progress of the babies coming out of the shell and how they grow.

The female may not have abandoned it. She may be waiting to actually sit on it until she has more than one egg. Some birds do that so the chicks will hatch around the same time.

If you try to hatch that egg yourself, you'll have to get a special incubator. The egg not only has to be kept a certain warm temp, it also has to be a certain humidity. The egg also has to be turned regularly so the chick doesn't stick to the inside of the shell and so it develops normally.

Before you do something like that, be sure you will be prepared to feed the baby, which will not be easy. If the parents aren't ready to raise a family, perhaps you ought to wait until they are.

Well, it may not be fertilized.Did she mate with a male? If not, there is no chick inside the egg. Remove the egg and check. Shine a bright light and see if it is empty or has an embryo. The best incubation is what the hen can give.If she is rejecting it, it probably is inferior. She might be taking care of it just fine. Relax, check and let her do the business of hatching should it be necessary. Have a great year.

Yes, it needs to be much warmer than 60-something. Do you have a male in the cage also(sure the egg is fertile)?? Wrapped in a towel, and close to a lamp will help temporarily, until you can get to Tractor Supply Co., or your local Farmers Co-op. Be sure the egg is abandoned, she may just be taking a break to eat, or sometimes, they will take turns sitting on the egg--Birdman

ok, do what your friend told you and put it in a tank or bin with a light bulb, wrap the edges with blankets so that if it hatches, it can crawl out the top. and get some wood shavings or newspaper and lay it around the parts without the blanket, but leave a little opening on top.

nicely, with any success you sound like you a minimum of have an theory of how its meant to bypass. with budgies i recognize that you'll candle the eggs to work out in the journey that they are fertile. i dont recognize a lot about that though, so that you'll settle on to google it. and the female can lay eggs with out mating so that they received't be fertile.
