Its a big room that used to be an entertainment room. He sleeps most of the day. He lives in my room because we have other cats in the house that cause him to pee on couches and stuff. How can he get exercise?

Well to tell you....One advantage of having a cat is not needing so much exercise. If you really want him to exercise maybe you can get some cats to play with him or put toys and cat nip around the room .... who knows he might play with it! ^_^

Can you take the cat outside? You can train a cat to be leashed and walk on a leash. But that will take some extra patience on your part and the cat's. If you accomplish this by practicing inside first, of course, then you can always go for walks.

I would suggest some toys that make the cat jump and run... even in a single room area. There are hundreds of kinds of toys that you can either make or purchase for the cat's entertainment as well as for exercise time.

Cats always seem to love strings or small items attached to a string... have your cat follow it around your room. There are poles that have feathers or strings attached that you can play with your cat by having it jump or follow the attachment on the floor. There are so many ways to get your cat to exercise if you're willing to invest the time for the cat's health.

Just be willing to donate your time to the cat. He/she will appreciate your contribution to the relationship in the long run.

Get a toy with the fishing rod design. There are so many different toys out there, but try to get a sturdy one. They need to run around and play and also need the interaction and attention of play. Work into it slowly -- just like anyone getting exercise after inactivity, increase it gradually.

Also keep these types of toys with strings and chewable pieces away from them unless you are there, they can get tangled or eat the pieces.

You can buy toys for your cat like at petco or petsmart. I bought one of those sticks with the feathers hanging from it and her cats go crazy. You may even burn a few calories buy walking around your room while using the cat to help them get excercise

I had a similar problem before. I bought a cat playground as well as a set of pet stairs. I put my cat's food at the top of the Pet stairs so she had to climb the stairs for exercise. This seemed to help and my cat lost some weight.

Put some mice in the room. Maybe the cat will like hunting. If the cat get good at it, you might try adding some birds.

You can get toys for him. They like to chase things so get one with feathers on the end that you flap around. Cats sleep a lot naturally.

Get a laser-light. They work wonders on lazy kitties. You can get one at a pet store, or at the flea market. Just DO NOT shine it in his eyes! Or anyone elses' for that matter!

Try balls, toys on strings, a flashlight, a laser pointer. Anything that gets him moving will help!
