My mom really wants a cockatiel. I have a cockatiel already. She is very spoiled. If I were to get another cockatiel tame and train to give to mom. How would my cockatiel react to gaining and then losing a new friend? good idea or bad idea for my pretty bird? I wouldn't want her to start plucking herself or anything.

In my experience, it takes cockatiels a good while to form a strong bond. I assume your mom's bird will have its own cage. Your bird will probably enjoy having the visitor but will not be grief-stricken when it leaves. She has a strong bond with you already, and she won't have time to form a strong bond with the newcomer before you give it to your mom. Good idea.

No, as a matter of fact if all turns well, then one will stop the other from plucking. Hope that this gift goes out well!

OMG! I have a cockiteil too. Wow I could really help you on this one...

Is your cockiteil a girl? If so, buy your mom a girl cockiteil...if you buy a boy they might fight (I've seen it happen) or have eggs...

The gilr birds are gentle but probably will ignore each other...
