I would cut out the potato roll and go for a very small piece of fruit (half an apple, a few strawberries, raisins, etc.), and a little water or caffeine. The caffeine will rev up your metabolism just a little bit more and give you a push for a longer run. Actually you should run on an empty stomach so as to avoid any cramping. I used to run about 4 mi. daily, and I never needed a snack during or before the run. I did eat shortly after the run, though. Also start reading Runner's World magazine. It's a great resource.

I eat a banana about 20 minutes before 6 milers. After about 4 miles I start to get hungry again.

Carbs, carbs, carbs. Forget all you've heard about carbohydrates being bad for you....if you plan on running four miles, you're gonna need some starchy, doughy carbs.
Pasta, bread, cereal...all good. As for why, they break down into quick energy that can be readily absorbed and used by the body and muscles.
In a good way :)

it's only 4 miles! Just have a light snack like a granola bar or a power gel. Then drink some water

AVOID any type of food. Just, drink a little amount of cereals. Chocolate bars will provide enough energy. Eventually, hydration is important. Drink bits of water every 5-10 minutes

Cereals
Contain alot fibers...

Like in the past, coach usually give foot ball or w/e player stake, but later they found that stake...really wasnt the best food and protein only give a lil energy to last
Cereal on the other hand, contains alot fiber, which will build up in the body and keep its maintaince

I would not eat anything , drink water.plan your run a hour or two after last meal or snack and then eat a healthy snack after but if you must eat before you run an energy bar or banana works well

I wouldn't eat anything right before. Maybe a light but balanced meal a few hours before and a drink with plenty of electrolytes.

I think you can eat anything you want as long is no more than a fist full. That way you don't feel too full to run. My gym professor told us.

I hear that a lot of runners load up on carbs like pasta for the quick energy.
