We hear them every 1st Wednesday of the month at noon. Don't you?

Seriously, just call anyone in Cincinnati tomorrow at noon, and first you'll hear the tornado sirens, then after that they sound the air raid siren. It's kinda erie.

Good heavens. Why not hear it live?! Go to almost any small US town at noon, and they sound the air raid siren. Not to warn people of an incoming attack (maybe against killer black flies or mosquitos) but to let farmers know it's noon and time for lunch.

Some towns sound the siren just on Saturday noon. Where I live, it's every day. There's a special series of blasts on the siren for emergencies, but the common one I hear at noon is a single long blast that takes about 15 seconds to die away.

The first answer is probably a good one. The air raid sirens were maintained by Civil Defense which I think is now defunct. Many were let to go into disrepair, sort of like the Soviet Navy.

Congratulation, you`re cleared of all suspicions. No more sounding of health siren; but there`s a need to set up a protection to shelter against a fall-out like H1N1. "All Clear" is only reliable at this moment till W H O gives its confirmation.
