I keep seeing people with like 6 thumbs downs for honest, legitimate answers to peoples' questions. Even if the answer is a complete fact, they will still get thumbs down! Why is it that people put others down, simply for stating the facts, or for stating their honest beliefs? (even if their statements were respectfully written out)
Do you think there are just really intolerant people on here, or are there just a few morons going through each question giving thumbs down to everyone?
And I understand that a "thumbs down" does not affect our scores, but its still quite disrespectful....
What are your thoughts?

I put this question in the R&S section because there is a lot of action here and a lot of people talking about morals and whatnot.
So I figured I'd get the best answers here.

Haha.....and of course, I get a thumbs down for my question. How convenient...

See what I mean? I ask a legitimate question and people knock me for it. I see it on other people's questions too.
Yesterday, a girl asked, "How does one die by hanging?"
And I answered, "asphyxiation, or broken neck"....thumbs down!

I think some of the thumbs down you're getting this time are from the smart-alecks :-)
I don't much mind the system--it gives us a way to vent against the really annoying answers, despite that so many people abuse it. I do wish there were some way to require more responsibility for the thumbs assigned--a 3-word explanation, for example, or a list of the NAMES of the people who up-or-down-thumbed you.

Yes, people often give thumbs down for questions or answers that don't deserve it, and I don't understand why you got eight thumbs down for this. But I think it is interesting to see what others think about the statements that are made here. I always give thumbs up to everything that is interesting or that I agree with, and I give thumbs down if something really upsets me, but not for everything that I just don't agree with.
So, I think the thumbs up and down system should stay, but people should think a bit about what makes them give thumbs down.

I asked the same question...
Im willing to bet that 2 out of 3 thumbs down/up are given to people who share the same beliefs, regardless of if the answer is relevent and honest to the original question.
It's just people showing their intolerance. I asked the question "What god do Satanists believe in?", it got like 6 thumbs down before it was removed (Why it was removed I'll never understand).
Good Day, Wonderful New year.

The system is OK, but I don't always agree with the way it's used. For example if you have an unfortunate situation due things beyond your control and then ask for advice you might attract the flies. Or somebody asks a question that you might think they know, the same thing happens. I aways think if they ask the question its isn't a bad question unless it insults somebody else.It doesn't deserve thumbs down, but so far you only got two. Consider yourself lucky. :) Woops ! I take that back. Thats uncalled for. I see nothing wrong with your statements.

I think Yahoo wanted to provide a way for feedback. How many times have you read a response and thought "NO WAY"....and you wished you could respond to that person?
At least we can say "I don't agree with you" through a thumbs down. It also provides a way to agree with someone through a thumbs up. Be sure to provide a lot of thumbs up, that is a way to spread positive energy on this board.

No I think it is the stupidest thing in the world!
And people who use the thumbs down/up systems are IDIOTS. Are people such loosers that they need to "seek revenge" to an answer they don't agree with by giving it a thumbs down? And sometimes, I read very good answers with a bunch of thumbs down from ignorant morons who just "don't like it"
I feel yahoo answers should do away with the psychotic thumbs system. I would gladly trade it in for smilies so my answers could be animated instead of :) and ;) :(
Or I feel that instead of thumbs down/up, you should be able to respond to an answer kind of like in YouTube.
Get a life people, if giving a complete stranger a thumbs down makes you feel better then you have a pathetic life.
I boycot the system and resist giving thumbs up or down.
What I do is I USE the stupid thumbs system to my advantage....

If somebody comes up with a creative or logical answer, even if I don't agree, I give a thumbs up.

Thumbs up/down is purely a popularity rating. If people don't like what I have to say, regardless of it's merit and legitimacy and relevance, I get thumbs down.
