Sounds kind of wierd from a guy that has a cat but I think unlike a lot of people, I'm a realist and I don't live in a fantasy world where everything goes the way I like.

1) Puppy Mills, even the deplorable conditions that we are always shown aren't any different than the way we treat poultry, pigs and a lot of other animals. Do you really think they get vet. care when they get sick? If you're going to talk about treating animals better, start with the animals we eat. They get treated far worst than most dogs or cats.

2) Blame the breeders. Why are puppies so expensives? They don't need to be. A dog has several puppies just like a cat. You can make more than enough dogs to satisfy any demand of any type. Breeders keep supply low to keep prices high. And if they say they don't make money from selling their dogs, then they're not very good business people. You want to know why you can't have the dog you want, they are the reason.

3) Don't blame the puppy mills, they are just taking advantage of the situation. Blame the people that make the price of dogs so profitable. If dogs were sold like cats, there wouldn't be puppy mills. Has anyone heard of a cat mill. The people that are making the money off these outrageously priced animals share as much blame as these business owners.

4) Do you seriously believe that every puppy mill mistreats their dogs the way it's depicted in the horror post? What seperates a breeder from a puppy mill owner. Being purebreed is an illusion. Rich people care about that. The avg. joe just wants a cute dog or a good guard dog or whatever your criteria for a dog is.

So bottomline, why do I support puppy mills. Because the more that there are, the lower the price will be. When dogs are $100 or less of any species that you want, then they become pets for everyone not just for the rich.

So what's the question? Why do you think all puppy mills are bad? Just because you saw a video. There are video of bad parents that abuse their kids too. Should people stop having kids. Down with expensive breeders. Up with cheap puppy mills. Who really is exploiting the dogs?

Well, on a different path, I don't think that too many people read your whole puppy mill advocate speach thing. I don't support puppy mills, but if your point was to say that just because bad puppy mills are all over the place, it doesn't make them all bad and that there are some puppy mills that play by the rules and deliver quality dogs with proper care, I get your point. The problem is the way you delivered said point. On Yahoo Answers, you get alot of people that say stupid stuff just to get others riled, and those people rarely have good points at all. When you open a "question" like that, you get responses from people that are so offended by your statement, that they don't even read the rest of it. If you truely want people to get your point and not rant at you, present your point in a different way.

First, there are more puppies in this world than that of demand. Why do you think we slaughter so many. Have you not seen backyard breeders and pet stores kill or dump the animals that don't sell. I have. Puppies are expensive- if you can't buy one for the price you obviously don't have the money to care for one. Vet care is expensive. Why are breeders not good business people. Breeding quality dogs cost money. I guess your the type that doesn't care if you end up with a dog with crippling hip dysplasia, killer heart problems, and a whole list of things. If the average Joe just wants a cute dog go to an animal shelter. How retarded are you. There are 5 million animals euthanised each day. If you can't find a cute puppy for an average Joe in that pile you aren't going to find one any where. Yes there are cat mills- where do you think they come from. Obviously you know nothing about cats either because there are some highly expensive purebred cats out there too. About the poultry animals well no one disagrees that they aren't treated poorly. People are working on that too. Ironically some meat raisers actually caare about their animals. And yes they do get vet care. Do you think the USDA would allow meat from sick animals to end up on peoples tables. Get a life. Open your eyes. Why don't you become a euthanasia tech and euthanise the thousands that don't have homes because people like you think there aren't enough. You are a cold hearted individual. You aren't realistic but stupid.

The reason that puppy mills can afford to sell their puppies cheaper than a reputable breeder is because the puppy mill will produce way more puppies than a responsible breeder. They will mate their dogs at every heat. Puppy mills breed for one reason and one reason alone, money. Responsible breeders are lucky to break even on their puppies and they do it because of their love for the breed.

I cannot believe you actually said you support puppy mills! I don't agree with any amimal being treated badly, whether it will be used for food or pets. You are saying because pigs, cows and chickens are treated poorly, it's okay to treat all animals the same way? You're sick! Get a clue. Do some research before you start saying such retarded stuff. Makes you look like an A$$.

Hmm, there are so many flaws with your argument that it's kind of silly to go through them all. So, I'll just deal with the most obvious. Since you don't have a dog, and may have not researched buying one your opinion may be a little short sighted. Puppy mills are PROVEN to be inhumane, disease-ridden, and money hungry organizations. Here's why; especially considering that I have been researching buying a puppy for almost 11 months.
1. Puppy mills lack the necessary vet care. The owners may boast AKC certified dogs but after careful investigating the owners do not register their dogs with the necessary health organizations such as the OFA:the orthopedic foundation of animals. They may boast purebred pedigrees but a disgustingly large amount of puppy mill dogs wind up being mix-bred and inbred, thus costing a new owner 1000's of dollars. Every vet and registered breeder of the AKC, that I have spoken to refuse to sell puppies to stores or fly them across the country. Puppy Mills have NO problem doing either of these, because the puppies are POOR quality.
2. As far as livestock goes, you have NO clue to what you're talking about. First of all, I have a pet pig...need proof, i'll be glad to send or post pictures. Livestock breeders who breed pigs for families take considerable care of these animals, otherwise I wouldn't be typing I may be dying of some crazy livestock disease. If anything pigs...i doubt that someone has a cow living in their home, have to be innoculized early at birth and are fed pretty well. Secondly, livestock used for our consumption and milk production, are taken better care of then puppy mill dogs. OTHERWISE the human population would be wiped out. Man, you should watch the discovery channel or read a newspaper sometime. As far as emotional needs, poultry, pigs and other animals may be less than that of a puppy, but they still need nutrition. As a matter of fact farming is in the main industry in the midwest, and it didn't get that way because people treated the animals like crap.

3) And lastly, as far as price goes. A high price doesn't always mean quality. But then again, the record's pretty damn good. I would much rather by the top of the line Mercedes Benz who crash rating is outstanding that a 1989 toyota corolla. Private breeders sell their quality, registered, health documented puppies because they a lot of time into them. A good breeder doesn't advertise. All of the puppy breeders that pop up after a google or yahoo search, offering $300 puppies can also guarantee that they are also selling health problems. Try it once...Search a breeder through yahoo, then check their business on the Better Business Bureau website. PUPPY mills are illegal and are specifically called Kennels by the AKC. Private breeders aren't in it for the money, because they usually breed less then once a year, AND they carefully screen. Trust me, before I knew anything about breeders I found some almost 10 kennels through yahoo who asked me nothing and were willing to ship a puppy across the country, in WINTER. Yeah...you're right what's $300 for puppy, when I'm going to have to shell out a few 1000 more to keep then healthy.

So, those are my points. Next time, don't just say something stupid.

Gee I hate to just say your wrong, but your WRONG!!!! Good breeders do not make a lot of money for their puppies if they do all they are suppose to do. Puppies Mills breed indiscriminate and end up with dogs with bad hair coats, they itch and pull out there hair, are very hyper dogs, never content, have problems making connections with people, often have medical problems that don't show up for a year or so. The smaller the dog, the fewer puppies the Mom will have, the larger the dog the more puppies the Mom will have. With Maltese, Yorkshire Terriers, Corgies, and some other small breeds, they frequently need C-Sections which costs the breeder a Min. of $700 to $1500 for a normal C-Section. The larger breeds have other concerns such as hip dyspepsia. This is a huge problem in Labs, Golden Retrievers, Rottweilers, German Shepard's etc. I would strongly advise anyone who is interested in a larger breed dog, make sure his parents and his grandparents have good hips. I could tell you many heartbreaking stories about dogs who were euthanized because they were in such pain with there hips and the owners just could not afford the $2000+ a hip replacement.
I am not denying that the animals we eat are not treated right, but those animals do not end up as pets in a family. no excuse, improvements needed everywhere, but cheap dogs are not the answer.

So basically your logic (such as it is) is that just because some animals are being mistreated it's okay for other animals to be mistreated? That doesn't even make sense. Animals of all kind deserve better treatment, puppy mills should not be supported at all. Everyone suffers from the puppies a puppy mill produces. My husbands aunt bought her dog from a pet store that claimed it didn't support puppy mills, but when the dog suffered from hip problems and we researched the source of the dog (the hunte corp.) it came from a puppy mill. The dog suffered from hip problems, the puppy mill was paid pennies on the dollar for what the dog was sold for. She paid 1600, when she could have had one from a responsible breeder for less than 1/2. So don't think puppy mills and the corporations that broker these dogs aren't profiting or keeping prices low.

Breeders who are responsible take pride in improving the breed through selective breeding, they get their dogs genetic tested, OFA certified, etc. Dogs are not bred every cycle and vet care is sought. A lot of time, care, etc goes into proper care and attention.

While there are many places where poulty, etc are not given the best of care. It is usually the big farms that do this not your family farm type establishments. My friend has a dairy farm, they have been ahead of treatment laws for decades. He knows that proper diet, proper healthcare, treatment, space all equal to better milk supplies. He even brings in a vet. that specializes in dietary needs and changes the feed based on the needs of his animals.

Our state just passed several laws concerning the treatment of pigs, etc.

Wake up and realize even the smallest changes are at least a step in the right direction. Supporting puppy mills will only lead to more animal abuse.

You're cruel!!! Have you ever seen how those puppies are raised, and the parents treated?!!?

It's because of puppy mills that we have all these dogs lying in the road dead, living on the street, living in the pound, and being killed in the pound because they don't have anywhere to go.

Puppy mills just give people an excuse to get a dog preg and sell mutts. If they say that they don't make money from the puppy mill, they're full of $hit!!!! They have to make money in order to feed the parents, and feed the pups!! I'm all for mutts, don't get me wrong! My dog is a mutt. But it's wrong to sit there and create more puppies when we already have to many floating around the world, with no homes, no one to love them, no food, no way to get to a vet when it breaks a leg, or a rib. No where to sleep when it rains, no nice warm place when it's cold and wet outside.

The reason they're called mutts, is because they're supposed to be free to get. people are selling mutts to pet stores, for almost the same price as a pure bred! If you saw what happened at a puppy mill, you might change your mind!

How often do you hear of someone being arrested or fined because they're creating to many cows, pigs, turkeys or chickens????? They aren't starved or beaten, like the dogs in puppy mills!!

The links below are videos of how all the animals are mistreated on a puppy mill!! I hope everyone that reads my answer will take a look at at least one of the videos. I hope the asker of this question will look at the second one! Then maybe you'll change your mind about this cruel and inhumane way to breed dogs, and keep dogs!!

Everything that a puppy mill stands for, goes against everything I stand for, and it's everything I'm fighting against!!! Those who are for puppy mills are for abuse, neglect, they don't care about the animal itself, and they are selfish!

What seperates a breeder from a puppy mill, is first off love! And they only breed one, maybe 2 dogs at a time. They dont' have hundreds of dogs sitting in small cages, with no food no water, covered in $hit, and no vet!!

And yes, people SHOULD stop having kids!! The human population is in the same situation as the animals are! To many, and not enough people and room to take care of all of them!!

You need to research your questions a little better before you decide to shove your foot all the way down to your stomach, and **** out the ***** shoe!!!!!!!!

Fetch, how dare you sit there and insult the idiots!!!!! he's beyond retarted. How about we make a compromise? He's an idiotic retard!!!!!

did you know....

1) most breeders sell for cheaper than puppy mills
2) breeders often base their prices on vet bills and food. A litter of puppies pays for their own meal. THATS WHY THEY COST SO MUCH. THERE IS LITTLE OR NO PROFIT INVOLVED! You should know this. Cat breeders do the same.
3) Its not about satisfying a demand. Its about best of breed.
4) Breeding isn't a business....its a hobby that requires money....doesn't make you money

So you support puppy mills because we treat them like poultry....do you support how poultry and pigs are raised? That would be directly supporting animal abuse. Not to mention...these animals are normally fed unlike mill puppies (or kitties)

There are people out there trying to stop how our food is being treated (no not peta...) but obviously you are for animal abuse and making money.

I hope this is a joke to get a bunch of people worked up and pissed off. Yes, poultry, pigs, and other "food" animals are treated badly. That is why we should advocate for them being treated better. That is not a reason to treat all animals like crap. Should we start treating all animals poorly because some of them are already treated poorly? How about getting off your *** and advocating for better treatment of all animals instead of endorsing puppy mills. Breeders have to pay for vet care, food, stud fees, and lots of other costs that puppy mills don't bother with. That is why they charge more. There is a difference between living in a fantasy world and condoning everything just because it is already happening.
What exactly is your question? You are just trying to make people mad.

You only actually asked two questions. So, the poultry and pigs do get vet care. Extended family of mine have pigs that they sell to slaughterhouses, and vets are called. Lawsuits are enormous if people get sick because of a sickness that a pig had!

And puppies are so expensive because they can be. No, they don't HAVE to be. But the supply/demand formula works the same with puppies as it was everywhere else.
