Taking her to the vet is the best thing to do. It may be anything from a small bruise to a fracture. But, when you do go, ask the vet about patellar luxation. It's a leg condition common to Bichon's and Malteses. I doubt that your dog is suffering from that, but it's safe to know anyway. Good luck!

I had the same problem with my little Chihuahua. The vet said she had sprained her leg way up where a human's shoulder socket would be. I put her on ibuprofen and I now have a foot stool in front of the couch so she can get on and off easily. It took some time but she is completely healed now. You may have a similar problem but let the vet check her out thoroughly though.

It could just be a mild muscle pain or sprain..... I have a Pomeranian mix and she does that every now and then. When she starts limping I usually massage the area and sometimes it helps her. Usually she knows her own limitations and when she starts limping she takes it easy and doesn't use her leg until it stops bothering her. It usually last a couple of days but if it doesn't go away by then, then you should get it looked over by a vet.

her leg could either be popped out from the hip so the muscles would not be connected to allow the leg to move. the way it is described it sounds like she's avoiding the leg but no pain means its not broken or sprained. But the no pain brings me to another point that there could be a tumor in her spine which would prevent from any actions sent from the brian to make it to her legs, it blocks the path.

She may have twisted her spine a little. She could be pinching a nerve, OR...she may have fractured her hip. I had a cat who did that, jumping off the top of her cat condo. Hopefully the vet will be able to determine the problem and help your puppy! Good luck!

She's a toy breed, right? Could be a luxating patella -- loose kneecap. Small breeds are prone to this. If so, she'll need an expensive operation, unless she's so old that it's not worth the trouble. And she may need the other knee fixed too. I hope for your sake that this isn't it. But it is fixable, and she will be fine.

She might have a muscle strain or hairline fracture, or the joint may have bumped out of alignment. She may have also bruised the pads of her foot. Good for you for taking her to the vet tomorrow! We hope she's okay.
