Some Christians say that they are against homosexuals because the Bible tells them so (Lev. 18:22, Romans 1:24, 26-27).

Some people calling themselves Christians have previously used the wording of the Bible to promote human slavery (Lev. 25:44-46, Colossians 3:22, Ephesians 6:5, I Peter 2:18-21); and some people calling themselves Christians have previously used the wording of the Bible to promote the inferiority of women (I Timothy 2:12-15, I Corinthians 11:3, I Corinthians 14:34-35, Ephesians 5:22-24).

Since it is no longer acceptable to say that the Bible promotes slavery or that the Bible says that women are inferior to men, why is it acceptable to say that the Bible condemns homosexuality?

The Bible is composed of various Hebrew and Greek texts located over the centuries since the first century AD. Any text you are reading in another language (eg, English) is merely a translation or paraphrase of those texts. Scholars constantly compare texts and phrases from one source to another (not always Biblical sources by the way) to see if the texts have been translated or paraphrased properly.

However, I am not sure why you believe that the Bible promotes slavery or states that women are inferior. Paul is pretty clear in Galations 3:28, "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus." Solomon had quite a rip-roaring book on how valuable women are. And do you really think women are better off now that they no longer enjoy the protections formerly afforded the "gentler" sex? After news story after story about abuse, porn and abandonment, I think not.

Most of these references you list are out of context. I would recommend you study the verses around them at Bible.com if you are interested in the truth of the matter.

As for the references you quote for homosexuality, I would suggest you expand your reference to Romans 1:20-40 to see how it applies. Note that it still leaves homosexual behavior in a pretty bad light; maybe even alluding to AIDS in verse 27b.

As for the various references to Leviticus, Leviticus was essentially a survival guide for the Jews. The idea was to protect these people even from themselves as much as possible. Many of these rules (eg, the avoidance of pork) fell away in the New Testament when God opened up salvation to the Gentiles through His son, Jesus. But the position on homosexuality was not changed.

You may not realize however that the Jesus did not preach that we should hate sinners, only the sin itself. Check out Romans 12.

That is why we have various religous agencies throughout the world working with all peoples in various sinful conditions. It is the people we love. And hope that through our example, they may turn from that activity which is harmful to them in the long run. And anyone that tells you that death by AIDS is a wonderful, peaceful thing is full of it. And you can quote me.

We use Scripture to interpret Scripture. Jesus declared all meals sparkling (Mark 7:19). He additionally informed a collection of non secular leaders that extra an adulterous woman to Him that the only without sin might desire to solid the 1st stone (John 8:7). We prepare the comparable dictum to homosexuals, that's why we don't attempt to stone the two group at the instant. The mere actuality that Jesus refused to permit every person with sin to stone an adulterer does not recommend that he theory adultery is great. interior the comparable way, Scripture continuously maintains that gay interest is against God's will (as adultery is, additionally).

The Bible has been translated into so many different languages you can not take it literally word-for-word. Also, much of it is symbolism therefore it is up for interpretation. I think that a person should read the bible themselves and then decide what to believe. They should not just go with what their religion tells them all of the time unless they've read the bible and agree.

Yes!

However, the bible does not say that we should be against Homosexuals. It says that Homosexuality is sinful and unnatural. It also say that we should hate sin, but love the sinner.

We are told to love everyone, even our enemies, but we are not to love what they do.

Who reads the bible? We only do what the pastor says. If we were to rise up and live by the bible now, there would be alot of bloodshed.
