"Religion is based, I think, primarily and mainly upon fear. It is partly the terror of the unknown and partly, as I have said, the wish to feel that you have a kind of elder brother who will stand by you in all your troubles and disputes....A good world needs knowledge, kindliness, and courage; it does not need a regretful hankering after the past or a fettering of the free intelligence by the words uttered long ago by ignorant men."

It sums up my thinking perfectly...and please....no quotes from the bible!

I enjoyed it. I agree the bible was written for a past time. That being said you can also say the bible serves as a good description of who we should be and how we should act. This being said it does not relate to today's modern society. Overall, the bible in my opinion is not a book to base your life off of. I am a free thinker and probably one of the first in line to burn in a Christians eyes. But, I believe that if a God does truly exist, Christianity would not be his chosen truth.

You destroy your case by claiming freedom to think yourself, but then denying it to those of us who think the Bible has a great answer.
