He looks like a cross between a German Shepard and a Border Collie. Great-looking dog, by the way!

The ears look like a Belgian Malinois or German Shephard. I think more likely it would be the Malinois because of the narrow muzzle. Could be mixed with Lab or Border Collie to explain the black. Either way, you have a very regal looking dog! He's gorgeous.

I agree with mom, part boarder collie part doberman. His hair is too short to be both collie and shepard. And there isn't any brown in his fur. Most german shepards are brown, black, and white.
He is a cutie, and very loved, I can tell.

He's beautiful! I'd say he's german shepard (there are black variety) cross border collie definitely has sheepdog in him which will explain the energetic behaviour.
