Check out the link below for a great list! Here are the top dogs they listed (in no particular order):
Schipperke, Pug, Whippet, Schnauzer, Yorkie, Scottish Terrier, Corgie, Cocker Spaniel, Italian Greyhound, Lhasa Apso, Poodle, Bishon Frise, Boxer, Boston Terrier, Dashshund, English Bulldog, Carin Terrier, Chihuaha, Pomeranian, and Maltese.

Right now I live in an apartment that allows pets and I have a Whippet cross. She is wonderful for apartment life, and is quite quiet (due to her personality). Whippets are always suggested for apartment dogs as long as they get the appropriate exercise, but as far as I have been told, any dog can live in apartment as long as it is constantly exercised! Also, just so you know, it is a little more difficult to raise a dog in an apartment rather than a house because you can never just let him/her outside, you are constantly forced to go out and exercise-- but long term benifits include a really strong connection with your dog and a good amount of socialization with people!

Good luck!!

I have a 3 bedroom apartment (house with 3 apartments) and have access to a huge yard from my front door and the screen door from one of my bedrooms..I have a german shepherd, only 65 lbs who is very happy here. She is quiet except for when s omeone comes to the door. However, if you are living in a building..I would suggest a cocker spaniel. You can go to www.google.ca...type in breeds of dogs and read about them.
With my experience...all the small dogs I owned were yappy. The daschund, pug, shitzu, yorkshire terrier and the bichon frise. However, all the big dogs I had/have are excellent for noise, but require alot more exercise. For bigger dogs, I have owned a lab, doberman, 2 german shepherds, pitbull and a golden retriever. All of which were great!! The only dog that I had that would be fine in an apartment would be the cocker spaniel.

good luck
happy new years

Labs are very easy to train they are very smart but they are big and aren't very good for an apartment without a yard but it can be done as long as your community allows it. If you have time for lots of walks it could work. I have a lab and just moved out of an apartment into a house I definitely like the house better with the lab but the apartment wasn't that bad. He never barked at the apartment unless we were playing but now that we are at the house he barks a little more.

Well I have both a mini poodle and a catahoula mix. And i live in an apartment. They are both good but the catahoula longs for the outdoors to run. Try to find a little dog like a pug or a poddle (miniature sizes). The smallest sizes are best because for running exercise they can do it through out the house and not get cramped. Thankfully my mother has a huge back yard and the catahoula gets all the running time she wants.

How big can you go? Most small dogs are yappy. A greyhound doesn't bark a lot and doesn't shed a lot and retired ones are perfectly trained. On the other hand if it must be small, go with a papillon or a shih tzu....maybe even a corgi. I have had these and they aren't very vocal....like chi's or pom's

You can go on Purina.com and they have a breed selector. This is your best bet since most people on here are over opinionated on certain breeds

I don't presently have a dog, but my daughter and son-in-law have a wonderful little Maltese dog. She's smart, loves everybody, and is quiet as a mouse. She'll sit on your lap for hours at a time. And if a Maltese slips up once in a while bcause you forgot to take it for a walk, you have a few drops on your floor instead of a lake!
One thing though; they are a long-haired breed (think of a walking mop) but my daughter gets her Maltese trimmed every few months to keep the coat short and easy to care for.

I had a llasa opso in an apartment for like 5 years and he was perfectly fine..I never remember him barking at all, very sweet..I kept him buzzed though so it was easier to take care of

Thats all I know from experience.

I do not know any dog that is going to be quiet. I would go for maybe a toy poodle b/c if you can not train them.. atleast their poo-poo is no bigger than your pinky!

Cats are quiet and they take care of themselves.

Italian Greyhounds are small, quiet, and don't shed much, but they aren't particularly easy to train.
