Some people drink to relax after a hard days work. Some drink just to get them drunk to try and forget their problems. Some drink, because their friends do when they all get together, and they want to be accepted by their peers. Alcohol makes people act differently. Some when drinking turn into the greatest joke tellers. Some, when totally intoxicated, become very violent. I myself used to drink, because I enjoyed the feeling I got. I did not however like the hang overs, but it came with the hard drinking.

People drink for different reasons. Some people are social drinkers while others drink to uphold traditional rituals. Some do it to try and escape reality from their problems, and some do it out of peer pressure to fit in with the crowd. Then you have people that are mentally/physically dependent on alcohol. In some countries the water is so unhealthy that they drink more alcohol than water. Alcohol in small amounts is even good for you such as, a glass of wine is good for the heart and a couple of beers is good for the kidneys but drinking in excess kills brain cells and damages the liver not to mention other organs. So it's all about self control.

Oh wow, people. "Maybe it's apple juice". Yeah right. That's way too dark to be apple juice. I say it's beer. If it's in Canada, the drinking age is 19. So close enough. I just gained a little more respect for him.

There are various reason people drink alcohol. Some drink alcohol to deal with issues like depression, anxiety, social situations, peer pressure, divorce, stress and/or death. Also, people drink alcohol because it's a special occasion. But alcohol is not all bad, not bad at all. It depends on who has it in their hand.

It's more than likely to make them forget what is bothering them. Its a deep seeded thing that drives them. Or it could be gentic. Whatever I know its a problem. To know an alcoholic is to be an alcoholic. Alcoholicism is worse than anything or anyone knows. I know i had parents that were and died from that. It's something that needs addressing to the public. Its an addition.. its something that breaks families apart..its something that someone who is one that needs desperate help. Someone that you know who is ..is crying out for help that doesnt know where to turn and inturn is ruining their lives and those love one's around them.. That is why lots of people turn to alcohol. If you know someone be there for them and tell them you love them no matter what. Thanks and that was a very good question.

i don't think it's as psychoanalytical as all these people are making it out to be...some people drink alcohol once in awhile just to relax..although the feeling that alochol produces can be addictive, and that's where alcoholism begins...but for the most part, people drink in social gatherings to relax..as you notice alcohol is almost always served at weddings, funerals, parties, etc. and other events/social gatherings...it's sort of a cultural tradition, in many cultures...this is called "social drinking". People drink alcohol for many reasons, each person's reason to drink is different, and a lot of it depends on the circumstances, such as if it's at a wedding to celebrate, by one's self to relax, or maybe to numb out pain (not a good thing), or at a house party where a lot of people are getting drunk (once in awhile okay)...anyhow the reasons for drinking vary from person to person and circumstance to circumstance.

Alcohol is very very bad if you are less than 21 years old.
After you become 21, it becomes very very good.
There is no one simple answer to your question. The reasons (and non-reasons) are as many and varied as the people who use alcohol.
Man has been making alcohol since the beginning of time.....I realize you may not agree with anyones reason for using alcohol but keep in mind that it is thier reasons, not yours. We are not judging you for not drinking.
Have a good day.

Some people think that they need to drink to have fun. Some people drink casually, while others drink from peer pressure. Other people drink to forget their problems without realizing that their problems will remain the next day.
