I find myself without a truck for the first time in many years. I used to work for GM so I was always the loyal buyer. That's no longer the case. My concerns relate to headroom in the ranger, I'm well over six feet tall and does the 6 cylinder kill you on gas, 3.0L or 4.0L?
And if anybody can give me a real assessment of the F-150 in general. Thanks, I know this was kid of long-winded.

Don't waste your money on a ranger unless its 4wheel drive,
those are the only rangers that have any resale value to them.
F-150 on the other hand has been top dog selling in the running
for the last twenty years. Has everything, all the comforts & toys
U can possibly want, plus lots of extra space for hauling things
inside as well as outside. U might not belive this but ranger &
F-150 get about the same gas mileage, & are very close on
the insurance rate. Why waste money on a ranger. get the full
size truck. U will not regret it. On the highway F-150 rides like a cadillac for the long runs, rangers shrink-up .

5 11 here and I have owned 3 rangers. All have been good trucks. Wrecked the first sold the other when I ordered the one I have now. It is a 95 4.0L stick shift ext cab and I get 20 + mpg depends on how I drive lol. The bigger the motor the better the mileage, I know it doesnt sound right but its true. I like the F-150 but as far as day to day driving I like my Ranger

The poll has been done for you. Ford has been the best selling truck for decades! Ford builds a truck to do a trucks job. Just compare the build quality. Look at the size of the bolts attaching the bed to the frame. Look at the fully boxed frame of Ford. The size of the oil filter. The fan shroud is designed to push air to the radiator, not just clean up looks. See how the doors are attached to the cab. You can stand on the Ford. The Chevy salesman might get upset if you try it on theirs (not sure if you would be liable for the damage). Size of shocks. Size of front suspension. If you're going 4X4, I can vouch the Ford goes thru muck where Chevys slide off the road. Hey, the Chevy has a pretty interior. Bur after I've been in one for 2 hours, I feel crippled. They also built a good engine. It should be good; it's the same engine they've had for 50+ years! Good HP. But again, in a truck you want torque for pulling & hauling. That's what Ford emphasis's. If you want to race 'Vette's just get a Ford Lightning.

Go with the F-150. They are a nicer looking truck. In my opinion I feel that they handle better than a ranger. They are a heavier truck than the ranger so they are safer on wet or slick pavement. Ford has many options for and F-150 and they have a fairly good resale value.

I know what you mean being tall I'm 6'5". I'll tell you the V6 Ranger is one bad azz little truck. I got to drive a stick right off the train brand new. Shifting into second will chirp the tires with out getting up on it. The F-150 are a joy to drive. I say you will just have to go and test drive each of them. Good luck with it.

Get the F-150! It looks like a great truck, I know several people who own them and they have nothing but wonderful things to say. I rode in a Ranger several times and it just seems too small. It might be ok if you only have 2 people but the back seat is too small a 2 year old won't want to sit in it.

My '95 4-cyl ranger never got better than 16 mpg. My '04 F350 (5.4, manual 6-speed) got 19 highway. My silverado with a 5.3 gets 20 highway. Go with the full-size truck and a standard trans. The Ranger (colorado, dakota, etc) will not do any better no matter what engine, and at least with a full size truck you know why you're getting 19-20 mpg.

The new Ford Rangers are quite roomy, get the extended cab 4 Door or you will feel cramped though. As for Engines the 3.0 would be fine unless you plan on doing any hauling or towing then I would recommend the 4.0, and don't buy a 2WD, they're pointless.

I have had both and have had an F-150 for the past ten years. I will stay with the F-150.
