She is 18 months old and I would like to breed her. If I breed her with a ordinary GSD would the pups come out mixed?

WOW!! A lot of really heated responses, why are you people getting mad at me? I love my dogs!!! More than people, especially people who get angry at innocent questions. If i was to breed her do you really think i would be stupid enough to just go by yahoo answers???? My best friend is a vet, i cant ring him at 4 am so i was just throwing the question out there.

Thanks to the nice poepl who just gave me an answer. I definately would like to breed her with a White as both her parents are whites and she is pure.

I love dogs, and would not in any way want to add to the already massive numbers of dogs in pounds etc....I am offended that people think i just want to make money off of her too.....jeez louise people

If your German Shepherd has a good pedigree you need to be careful..I'm posting a link about their health issues. You need to make certain you take her to a reputable breeder who should keep you right. Look for German Shepherd Breeder's Clubs and German Shepherd Clubs in your area and talk to other breeders and owners before you do anything. See the links below. Your vet may be able to give you advice. If my memory serves me right the mother of a friend of mine specialised in breeding white German Shepherds in the late 40s and 50s so you may need to find a breeder with white dogs.

As you say .. WOW. Some interesting answers there. Pay no heed to some of them. Make sure you breed with a white dog. It's possible that not all the pups will be white but the odds should be in your favour. I wish you every success with your plans and hope some of the pups turn out to be champions. I've just noticed your message saying that she is pure white as are her parents .. my memory was right then. White German Shepherds are beautiful dogs. It would be lovely to see many more of them. It gives me great pleasure whenever I see one.

The US animal shelters have to kill 13,698 dogs EVERY DAY! 5 million each year. PLEASE do not add to these numbers by breeding your dog.

If you are bound and determined to breed, educate yourself FIRST. Your female needs genetic testing for hereditary disorders. Shepherds are VERY prone to hip/shoulder dysplasia, and brain tumors. Their eyes should also be tested, along with several other tests. If she comes back with no genetic flaws, then you need to start her on a regime of high quality food and supplements for at least 6 months before you breed. By the way, the male should also get all those tests done as well. Do not take their word for it, they should have documentation showing that these tests have been done. Also before you breed, you should find prospective homes for the pups. Be sure to screen these homes so that you know that the people know what they are getting into with a puppy, that there is sufficient room for the pup to play, and that your pups are going to a home where they are a part of the family, not an outside fixture. Make up a contract for all potential pup owners that if for some reason, ANY reason, they cannot keep, do not want, change their mind, that they will bring the dog back to you, even if it has been 10 years. ALL reputable breeders have this sort of clause in their adoption contracts.

There is a WHOLE bunch of stuff you need to know about breeding your dog, if you choose breed. You also need to have a couple of spare thousand dollars in the bank for emergencies during the pregnancy and/or birth. Below are some links. PLEASE READ THEM BEFORE you breed your dog. Best yet, spay, don't breed.

Are you asking if the puppies would somehow be a mixed breed if you bred her to an "ordinary" German Shepherd?

Mmm'kay. First of all, white is just another color of GSD. The "White German Shepherd" is not a different breed than a German Shepherd.

Secondly, your b itch is too young to be bred. She needs to be at least 2 years old.

Third, you need to get the proper genetic testing done. GSDs are prone to Hip Dysplasia, Pannus, Elbow Dysplasia, and other problems. More important than her COLOR is whether or not she has any of these problems, or carries them in her lines. Do you know anything about that?

Fourth, puppies resulting from a breeding to a black/tan GSD would produce black/tan, unless the male carries the genes for white color. Then you may get some white puppies, although they would very likely not be the majority.

Fifth, do me a favor. Go to http://www.petfinder.com and do a search on GSDs in your ZIP code. Tell me what you see. This breed has been trashed. Please breed for the right reasons.

From what I understand, white gsd's have MANY health issues and problems because the gene pool is so very limited. Don't breed. Unless you have been in contact with serious breeders, have the health clearances, and have done a ton of research, --don't breed. If you have been in contact with all that, then there's no reason to get answeres here from anyone.

If you are relying on Yahoo Answers to ask about dog breeding then you have no business breeding a dog. Spay your dog. There is a whole lot involved in breeding a dog. It's no simple task and when breeding a breed such as the GSD then you should make sure she has all health screens done.

There are many, many homeless GSDs. Don't add to it.

Yes, the pups will be mixed. They may come out looking white but genetically they will have genes for both regular GSD and white GSD. If you want to keep the bloodline pure assuming both her parents were also white GSD you should breed her with only a white german shepherd dog.

I can see your point of view if you was to mix breed her then it depends on the males genes my advice would be if you want to breed then first do the research then once that find a white male.

Someone else out to make some easy money at the expense of an animal....

Unless you intend to show the pups (assuming the ***** & dog are registered & you are willing to go to the expense of registering the pups etc) DON'T. Despite what some 'learned' people may tell you, it does not 'do the ***** good' to have a litter

No they will most likely be black/tan. If the black/tan male has the white gene though, the would be a few white pups.

probably but some might come out white and some might come out the other color of the dog

if you decide to be sure to do lots and lots of research
