I'm getting off topic and I apologize for it but, I have to address the comment made by tatoo980927.
The US Army was founded on 14 June 1775. The US Marine Corps was founded on 10 Novemeber 1775, as tatoo stated. How then does that make the USMC the senior service?
EDIT: Perhaps I should clarify this a little bit more since certain people do not know history as much as they may think:
"The modern United States Army has its roots in the Continental Army which was formed on June 14, 1775, before the establishment of the United States, to meet the demands of the American Revolutionary War. Congress created the United States Army on June 3, 1784 after the end of the American Revolutionary War, to replace the disbanded Continental Army. However, the US Army considers itself to be an evolution of the Continental Army, and thus dates its inception from the origins of the Continental Army"
Thus, the US Army considers its birthday to be 14 June, 1775 when it was first started, regardless of what the name may of been at the time.
As far as the USMC goes, "Originally organized as the Continental Marines on November 10th, 1775 as naval infantry..."
and
"The Treaty of Paris in April 1783 brought an end to the Revolutionary War and as the last of the Navy's ships were sold, the Continental Navy and Marines went out of existence. Following the Revolutionary War and the formal re-establishment of the Marine Corps on 11 July 1798..."
The USMC considers its birthday to be 10 November, 1775, despite it being under a different name (the Continental Marines), a situation the US Army was also in (not to mention the fact that the Continental Marines were disbanded and then remade into the US Marine Corps in 1798). So when it comes down to it, the USMC considers its birthday to be 10 November 1775, and the US Army considers its birthday to be 14 June, 1775.
The US Army is the senior service.
I'm not trying to get into a debate on who's better, Army or Marines; I have the utmost respect for all my comrade-in-arms. Just trying to clarify a few misconceptions.

don't know the name of it, but it is talking about the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor, AKA the Marine Corps Insignia.
We stole the Rope from the Army, the Eagle from the Air Force, and the Anchor from the Navy. God created the Earth, and on the seventh day, God rested, we overtook his perimeter, and have been guarding her shores ever since.
And regarding the above answer, the Marine Corps is the oldest branch of the miltary in this country, dating back to Nov. 10, 1775. Where this whole "the Army is the senior service" comes from I do not know.

I don't know about that but it's the ARMY that guards the gates of heaven, not the Marines. Army is the senior service and we will have that honor.
Army: 14 June 1775, senior service.
