She was wondering if anyone out there can tell her what she can other than to become a 24/7 housewife / chauffeur / maid / etc ??? Those odd hours and minutes where she can do something helpful or useful

Hobbies are great, take up painting, sewing, something along those lines. Or maybe volunteer her time at a hospital or something with Children, I know a lot of the schools love having retired persons come in and read to the younger children. If she is a senior, most communities through the city or park district have senior activities she can take part in, if she's really good at something maybe she can even teach a class. Or if she is still looking to earn money, maybe a home business, like Avon, Tupperware, something along those lines. Then she would still feel like she is making a contribution. There are a lot of things she can do. My grandmother retired at age 60, and kept busy with women's clubs, seniors centers (teaching and taking part in activities), and volunteering at a local school. Good luck to you and your mom, tell her to do something she really enjoys

Maybe she could consider starting her own business. Or she could volunteer a couple of days a week to help the poor, sick, orphans.
