We recently moved into a new house and last night my cat got out and ran away. We didn't think we would ever see him again since we have had him here only a week, he came back a few minutes ago (was gone around 24 hrs) and ate and is now at the door wanting to go back out. Should I let him? Will he come back again? Will he be fine to start letting out all the time?

Cats are usually really good at finding there way back home. I had this cat that left one day he was go for 5 months we thought he was dead. I was in the barn getting ready to feed my animals and I heard something in my cat food bag. I opened it up and there he was. But on the other side. we just moved into our house a few months ago when I was bringing my animals over (I have this barn I built with this huge pen off the back to keep my cats in cause where we moved there's a highway close by) my oldest cat got out and come home the next morning. my little sis accidentally let her out about a week later and she hasn't come back.

Is your cat neutered??? If not, he may come back all beat up from fighting with other Toms. Where do you live? If you live on a busy street or anywhere where there are coyotes, he could easily be killed.
I used to let my cat out and after he was hit by a car and broke his leg I kept him in for several months but he was miserable. He got hit again and came home (to my neighbor, who had just come home from working the night shift) and survived but lost sight in one eye and had a sinus problem the rest of his life. I don't like to let cats run loose, and it's very easy to say when you live in coyote country. They may or may not come home...the fact that he found his way home is a very good sign, though. He may be out catting about. My Scooter was neutered and got into fights all the time with the local Toms.
It all depends. How much do you love this cat? If you love him so much you would be brokenhearted if he didn't come home, then perhaps you can keep him in.
Scooter eventually adjusted to being an indoor cat after 6 years of being an indoor-ourdoor cat.. But, we always had to guard the door or he'd be off to the races. Good luck.

this same situation happened to my cat, DO NOT LET HIM BACK OUT. I did with my cat Rocky and he started going to the neighbors. He found a way inside there house and is now there cat considering he never comes to our house. your cat could be different, but I don't think so. I haven't seen my cat in 2 years, but my neighbors are taking good care of him. If you want to se your cat, you won't let him back outside

I'm happy he came back for you. Mine took 3 months. As for letting him out, it depends on where you live. If you're near a street I would keep him in. If you're in the country I would try letting him out. Keep in mind, though, that there can be animals out there that could kill an unexperienced outdoor cat. Also, if you live in a cold area, he is not prepared to go out at all. If you do decide to let him out when it's warmer, make sure he has a warm place to sleep, fresh water, and food. If you keep him in he will readjust to being inside soon.

I don't let my cat going out while I'm not near her. The best would be not letting him to go out a lot some people don't like cats could hurt him or kill him.

Cats are smart. If he wants out, let him out. He knows where you are. More importantly, he knows where to get FOOD. Wherever YOU are, there IS the FOOD. So, he will return again. He has already shown you that you can trust him and he will return. He's got a lot of new territory to explore - that's exciting to him !!

If he came back once he will come back again. Cats are very good outside. He knows his way home it will be fine. Just keep him in when it rains or snows. He will always come home :)

It will also keep him happy, they love to be outside.
